Chance 3511

RIP 1/3/15 - 4/5/21
Chance came into rescue 6/1/20 as an owner surrender. He passed very quickly from bloat.

Charles 3740

As most know by now, Sir Charles crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge Thursday morning, March 20, 2014. He was not alone, myself and Dr. Schaefer held him and cried together. The staff at Dog and Cat went above and beyond for Sir Charles. I saw many tears. He was not just a "rescue dog" he was loved by the staff. He was the most gentlest easy going lad any one could ask for.

As a foster, we get it in our heads we can fix these dogs. Sometimes  I think "this is a bad case", then the next dog is even worse. Then comes Charles.  His face, the sadness I saw immediately drew me in. I wanted to "fix" him. Adopt him out and be proud of the transformation.

Never did I think I could not fix him, until the x ray. His heart was so damaged that even doing a heart worm injection could  have killed him. His lungs full of fluid. As a foster, this was heartbreaking. I am suppose to "fix" him, bring him back to health and adopt him out. Sir Charles was that one foster I could not adopt out.

I cried so much Thursday, curled up with his blankie. Questioning myself over and over, did I do the right thing?? Today, I can say I did. He is not in pain any more, he can breathe easier, he can run, let his heart beat like a puppy again.

Charley 3976

It is with deep sorrow that I report that our beloved friend and companion passed away November 2, 2014.  Charley came to us from the VGSR in April 2005, he was 10 months old.

He was a gift that we treasured these many years, he is sorely missed. Charley developed neurological problems that quickly robbed him of his motor functions, his ability to walk rapidly declined.  Medical intervention did little to alleviate his condition, and as he approached
the end all we could do is manage his pain.

Near the end we tried to have him sleep on the lower level of the house, my wife Sandy stayed with him.  On the evening before he passed he refused to stay downstairs, he struggled to climb the stairs to spend one last evening with us.  On November 2, 2014 at 12:31 pm MST he crossed over.  His cremains are here and they will accompany us when we leave this life.

We are forever grateful to the VGSR for allowing us to partner with this wonderful creature.

Charlie 1877

8/24/15  Ten years ago two wonderful German Shepherds from VGSR adopted me....Sadly,  this morning, after 10 great years and after a long bout with DM, my Charlie (VGSR tag#1877) crossed to the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you to Krista of VGSR for bringing him into my life. Even tho our hearts are breaking, im happy he is no longer confined in a body that was letting him down. Despite being rescued from horrible treatment and beginnings, you were a sweet and loving boy who just wanted to be loved. You will be sorely missed by Dakota and I, but never forgotten....we love you... RIP....8/21/04-8/21/15.      Bill Queen

Chet 5109
Chet was a sweet boy who was released to a shelter because "they couldn't afford to pay the redemption fee". Chet had noted problems passing stool at the shelter so we immediately took him to a full service vet. He saw specialists, we tried everything under the sun to help him but since he went untreated for anal fistulas for too long, he was not able to recover. We shed many tears for his as he was a super sweet dog with a great temperament! He fit in so well at our home and would have made a great first time GSD owner....we miss him every day.
