My name is Simon. I am a beautiful 2-1/2 year old German Shepherd dog looking for a new home. I'm currently staying in Frederick County Maryland. My foster family says I'm a wonderful dog and will make the right family very happy. I'm very smart, treat and ball motivated, super sweet, friendly and already know some basic commands and can walk pretty well on a leash. I like people and live with my foster family and their VGSR alumni and cats. I was injured some time ago and am recovered and am now back to my normal playful self. I can run around and play with other dogs, chase a ball, and hiking, swimming or walking are essential to my well being and maintaining good muscle tone. I do love to run around the yard but would not be a good running/jogging partner. My normal walks are about an hour and I love to go to the Appalachian Trial for that long, I'm up for farther but my foster brother is about 9 years old so we have to stop. I've come across streams while hiking and I like to go in and lay down to cool off. I even swim when it's deep enough. After hiking I like to get on the bed with my foster dad and snuggle up while we watch TV (well I take a quick nap, he watches TV). I like to snuggle on the couch too so furniture privileges are a plus!

I get along with most dogs and like to play. If you have a groundhog or squirrel problems, I'd be thrilled to help out. I do need to find a family with some open space, preferably a large fenced yard, with lots of time to play ball and walk me. I sometimes get a little nervous when being walked in new places but even that has improved a lot. I may do well with another friendly dog to keep me company if it were the right dog. I've met some children at adoption events and been polite but there are none living in my home. I'm crated when foster mom and dad are away but they say I'll probably be fine with free roam of the house long term as long as shoes are put away.  I'll do well with an owner who is comfortable with leading, teaching, and challenging me to become an even greater dog. If you are an approved adopter and would like to know more about me feel free to contact my foster at moreshort@aol.com .  If you haven't applied to adopt from VGSR yet, then what are you waiting for?
