German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Young
UPDATE: I'm Blue's new foster and have had him almost a month now. Blue is doing great getting use to living in a home enviroment. He is really enjoying playing with his toys and an occassional slipper, but he is learning the difference.
Blue was rescued along with his brother Brody and two other shepherds. The only thing he knew about humans was they came by and threw cans of food over the cage to feed them, then left. No one came to clean up after them. They were left alone, and depended on one another for company. A local trainer went to the facility where all the dogs were located to pick out one to become a service dog. Once she saw the conditions that they were living in, she pulled all four dogs. At first. Blue would cower as far away as he could from her. He would turn his head to avoid her. He was not aggressive at all, he had no clue how to act. In time, the trainer worked with Blue and built up his confidence, he learned to be a "dog". He is extremely great on a leash. Walks with a flat collar, no pinch collar needed. He is a calm, kind, gentle sort of fella for being a year old. He loves to play with other dogs. Very submissive, non reactive to aggressive dogs he has encountered. He would be great company for some one on a farm or have lots of land and other dogs to play with. He is currently boarded at a farm and walks by lots of farm animals with no interaction. There are roaming chickens, ducks, geese, pheasants and a resident peacock. He enjoys watching the llamas, horses and pigs. Blue loves being outdoors. loves being on the farm. loves playing with the other dogs boarded with him. He needs activity, not high energy, but definitely not a couch potato. He will need something that will keep his mind from becoming board. Blue has the "working" dog attitude and will need a job to keep him busy. He is not the dog for someone who is gone for long periods of time. Not the dog for someone who will only walk him. He needs to burn his energy or he will become bored. He was penned up for the first 9 months of his life, and has been boarded ever since he was rescued. He is going to need formal training to introduce him to the "home" life. This is some thing that will not happen over night. In times of being left alone, Blue will need to be crated. Since he is a "working" dog. He will find something to work on if not crated, and that could turned into destructive behavior. He will need a dog proof crate. Preferably a working K9 crate. Please give Blue a chance. There has to be someone out there that will burn his energy, teach him its OK to be in a house and crated. . He would be great for a farm or someone with horses, lots of land. A barn he can call home. An active family, someone who works with service dogs. If you feel like you can help him be an active working dog email me at ffmedic036@gmail.com with any questions.
