9/26/15 - Update: Due to his age and some recent difficulty in getting around, Brutus is starting on anti-inflammatory medication today. Probably just a little arthritis but the vet feels this will help maintain his mobility and also make him more comfortable. He is still a lovable, playful boy and will make someone a great buddy. It would help if he were adopted into a home with a nice size fenced-in yard, as even through he loves his walks, opportunities to run around have additional exercise will help keep him in the best shape possible. 8/26/15 update: Brutus is now having what the vet feels may be allergy issues in terms of minor reactions to seasonal irritants. We have pretty much ruled out any food sensitivities but he has some itching and mild dermatitis that has required a round of antibiotics. He is doing well with this treatment. The build-up of debris in his ears does cause him some discomfort so frequent baths and ear cleanings are also of benefit to him. Future maintenance of this problem might include OTC allergy meds on occasion, as well as frequent monitoring of the condition should any ear and/or skin infections occur and additional antibiotics be warranted. We have also learned that he may not be great with cats. He seems way too interested for safety's sake, and unfortunately has no opportunity here to get to know any cats on an ongoing basis. He also likes to chase geese! Probably would not be good to be around chickens or any other types of " fine feathered friends". 5/23/15 Senior boy Mr. Brutus is doing well and recovering nicely from his ear infections. He looks and feels so much better! He is an easy-going boy and likes everyone he meets, especially if they play ball with him, which if one of his favorite games. Squeaky balls are the best, says Brutus! He is totally trustworthy in the home and does not require crating. Brutus is what I call an "appropriate" barker. Nothing excessive but no one will sneak up on you with this boy around. Alerts to strangers in the yard or nearby, but otherwise quiet and just likes attention. He rides great in the car and loves going for walks in the neighborhood. He will be neutered next week, after completing his medication for the ear problem, so will be available for adoption soon. This nice older boy just needs a soft place to sleep and someone to love! 5/2/2015 Brutus is an old, sweet soul. His owner was no longer able to care for him, so he came to VGSR. Brutus is currently taking medication for an ear infection. After it has been cleared up, he will be neutered and ready for his next chapter. He is good with other dogs, but prefers the company of people. Brutus is house-trained, crate-trained and has free roam when left alone. He would be happy in a home where he is showered with love and affection. Fostered in the Richmond area.
