TOBY IS CURRENTLY IN MEDICAL CARE AND IT IS UNKNOWN WHEN HE WILL BECOME AVAILABLE.

1/28/15  Toby is a very sweet large black and tan GSD. He had been rescued from an abusive owner as a puppy and kept safe by an elderly gentleman. The man could no longer care for Toby and wanted a better life for him. Toby lived in the yard on a logging chain with a doghouse. That's just how things were in the country with dogs, all the man's life. Toby was loved and cared for best as possible, but had never been to the vet or had any vaccinations in his five years of life. When the temperament evaluation was done, it seemed there was an immediate medical problem and VGSR took Toby in and immediately to the vet. It was discovered he has a huge solid blockage in his colon. Diagnosis and treatment to follow. He also has a fever and could not receive any vaccinations until his temperature returned to normal

3/8/15  Toby has spent the last seven weeks at Brandon Animal Hospital in Roanoke undergoing a diagnostic process of tests, treatments and diets...everything that could be done has been done to avoid colon surgery that could have resulted poorly for Toby.  There have been many ups and downs but his blockage is finally gone and his progress has been positive. He may have a megacolon due to the abuse he endured as a pup, or due to eating dirt and rocks that caused the colon blockage.  He had finally received his vaccinations and been neutered. Through it all Toby has been a love...a large, gentle and tolerant giant boy, he has been a special patient and a favorite to all who work at the hospital. He will hopefully soon be going into foster care and more information will follow.

Please consider sponsoring Toby's medical bills that have accumulated over the last seven weeks.
It is unknown if Toby will ultimately need surgery. His medical future is still unsure. His prognosis is guarded but hopeful. Dr. Wilson has worked hard and donated greatly to his care and VGSR has been there for Toby through each step. One day Toby will be well enough to live comfortably in a home as a beloved forever pet and leave the memories of the chain, dog house and bleak life of eating dirt and trying to drink frozen water behind.

We will let you know when Toby becomes available for adoption.
