Splinter is an adult male, who was a stray to a rural WV shelter.  He came to the shelter in deplorable condition, with tremendous hair loss, and was also very skinny.  He's improved remarkably while in our care.  His haircoat may still look not as "full" as it should, but it continues to improve.  He eats well and is slowly gaining weight.  It's easy to tell he wasn't well cared for.  He's the kind of dog that just enjoys being around people, other dogs, but can also be independent.  The vets can't pinpoint his age, so if age is super-important, Splinter is probably not the best dog to choose.  He could be anywhere from 4-8 years.  His teeth are broken as though he's been chewing his way out things his entire life, but his eyes are bright and alert and he shows no signs of slowing down.  He does have small places in his haircoat that may never grow back because of scarring.  He has the activity level of a 5-6 year old, in my opinion.  Splinter is living peacefully with other dogs, and also a small herd of cats.  Now that he's neutered, he seems housebroken.  He can be quite verbal, so he would not be appropriate for apartment or townhouse living.

This guy won't win any beauty contests, but he makes up for it in personality.  If you are an approved applicant, and would more information or to meet Splinter, please contact iresqgsds@gmail.com.  Splinter is fostered NW of Frederick, Maryland and his potential new family should expect to travel to our home to meet him.
