11/14/2014 Charley is a 9-year-old Dutch shepherd who landed in a rural shelter after her owner died. She is alert and intelligent, and for all her independence she still craves human attention and would like nothing more than to snuggle all day and all night. She loves going for walks so that she can find out what is going on in the neighborhood, and she has been terrific with all the people and dogs she has been meeting in Arlington, even the puppies who jump all over her – she just ignores them and does not react. She perks up her ears when she sees squirrels and other prey animals, but she does not pull on her leash or try to chase them. Her tail wags constantly because she is such a happy little girl. She recently had a vet appointment so she is up to date on her shots, and she is heartworm negative. The vet told her that she is in very good shape for a dog her age. She still needs to be spayed so she won’t be available for adoption for another few months. Please check back periodically for updates. She plans to attend adoption events in Northern Virginia as soon as she is spayed. Please feel free to contact your case worker if you are an approved adopter who is interested in Charley.
