Duncan is a bicolor male GSD/doberman mix (best guess from vet). He came from RCACP on his last day. Duncan was sick with a respiratory infection, he was very seriously underweight and had to have fluids immediately upon leaving the pound. His blood work was really off and his health was of grave concern. His left upper and lower canine teeth are broken mid-way. When I did his evaluation, he was a happy enough dog, very friendly but days later when he came out of the pound, he was doing poorly. He had rubbed his lips raw chewing on the cage and barely had a wag in him. Within 3 days of good eating, some medication and lots of attention, Duncan turned into the animated, happy little guy he is now. He still had a huge respiratory infection, but he was wagging his tail and smiling and showing off his tricks - he can sit, down, and shake who knows what else and learned to speak in about 10 minutes. Duncan has now recovered completely; his blood work is normal and he will be neutered June 21. He has put on quite a bit of weight and now weighs 57.5 pounds which makes him a slender but healthy looking boy. Duncan loves affection and attention. Since I have known him, he has never met anyone he did not like. He likes children, gets along with every dog he has ever met (but has his favorites) and seems a little curious but fine with cats. He does run and try to catch squirrels in the yard with the rest of the dogs, but doesn’t seem to have the ambition to catch them as the others do. This guy is so sweet all the time. He has obviously had a lot of attention before his life took a turn for the worse. He has been trained to do many things and is very eager to learn. A very intelligent dog, Duncan is also very treat and praise motivated and easy to train. He walks well on the leash and comes when called. He learned his new name in just a few days. He likes to talk, making little noises as if in conversation. Duncan loves a belly rub and will snuggle for hours. Duncan’s secret is that he can out play any dog. He starts playing in the morning and can wear out two eight month olds, a giant four year old guy and feisty little two year old female and is ready for more. He should go to a home where he will be able to play with a dog who loves to play with others. He is quiet and calm when his playmates are away, but he really, really loves a game of wrestling and ankle biting, and he is very gentle in his play. This little guy is so cute and has a tremendous personality. He probably will never go over 60 pounds. He is a bundle of love and steals your heart right away. The more you know Duncan, the better you like him. He doesn’t like to be crated. He does fine in the house loose with the other dogs, There has been only one instance of inappropriate chewing behavior I feel was influenced by two younger, mischievous puppies who are now crated when alone. Duncan is protective of the home and yard and barks when someone comes over or when the other dogs bark. Sometimes he will bark when he is trying to tell you what he wants. This adorable little boy will charm his family for years to come and love them completely. If you ever feel down, just go see Duncan - he will always make you smile!
