Dixie is a 3.5 year old female, bi-color, shepherd. She was surrendered to a shelter along with a male that the owners had intended to mate her with. They had moved from their farm and gave up the dogs before that happened. Dixis is small, about 60 pounds, but is a lot of dog in a small package. She is very energetic, athletic, fast, and agile. She can and will run circles around most other dogs. She has a pretty strong herding instinct, but no training, so it's pretty much just an intense drive to do something. She is very smart, a very fast learner, and she's responsive and cooperative. Dixie is crate trained and I'd consider her to be housetrained but would recommend using a crate in the beginning. She is a bit dominant with other dogs and probably will not be good with other dominant female dogs. I've had her living with other male dogs while she's been in foster care and she's fine, but she lets them know that she's in charge. She is not a dog I'd take and turn loose in a dog park with a lot of dogs with unknown temperaments. She is not good with cats. Dixie is very loyal and devoted. She would be great as a running companion, an agility dog, or anything active. Dixie will be happy to snuggle when she's tired, but she's too young to be a couch potato.
