Do you like to throw balls? If you throw anything that is remotely spherical, Ill chase it! Even better, Ill bring it back and give it up without much fuss, so you can throw it again. What could be more fun than a GSD with a beautiful, soft, thick, luxurious coat chasing a ball? Foster mom accused me of having a fur implant from an Alaskan Malamute, Im so soft and furry. Pashaw! look at me I am all GSD! I am black and tan, but my black is beautiful, more like a brindle, with a hint of red. Very classic GSD facial markings, too. And such a soft fluffy tail! Oh, did I mention how much I like to chase balls? I am about four years old, in good health, spayed, and I dont miss a thing! After only two days with foster mom, I have the hang of things around here the outside is for potty breaks, the inside is for eating, sleeping, and hanging out. At night I sleep in a travel crate? in foster moms bedroom. The first night I panted some because I was nervous, but by the second night I knew the deal I didnt even get anxious when the snooze button was hit a few times just waited patiently until it was time for me to come out. I am a little pushy with the resident GSD. Not aggressive, but I might be too much for a shy, elderly (or very young) or sick canine housemate. I do like to play, however, with a dog more my speed, but could also live happily with otherwise-animal-less humans. The resident cat has made herself scarce, which foster mom says is a sign that I may not be well-suited for a cat-infested household. Did I mention the part about chasing balls? I dont have any obvious hang-ups ride fine in the car, walk ok on the leash but could use a little manner training, dont have any leash, food or toy aggression, have taken well to being crated. Because I am sometimes a bundle of energy I might not be good for young children; not so much because of my teeth, but because I am big and strong and might accidentally run right over them. But I was readily receptive to foster moms making it clear she was the boss boy can she be scary and I am perfectly willing (and relieved!) to not have to be the alpha animal in the house. I was a stray before VGSR took me in, and nobody there knows dog-speak well enough to get my whole story. I have been bred, and I am veeerry sensitive (read: scared) about being grabbed by my neck. But I havent held any grudges. I am a little shy and scared when I first meet new people, but it only takes me about 10 minutes before they can pet me, and after only two days I happily accept any instruction from foster mom. And I am fiercely protective of my homestead, with my big, deep bark. If you are looking for a beautiful, smart, healthy, devoted, ball-chasing four-legged companion, look my way! If you have already submitted an application to VGSR, feel free to contact foster mom directly at kmonster@comcast.net . I will also be attending some adoption events in the Northern Virginia area. I hope to meet you soon will you be my new catch? partner?

Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security.

The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $200.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed.
