German Shepherd Dog / Mixed : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Large
My name is Buddy and I was surrendered by my owner who had no time to take care of me. If you are looking for a puppy but dont want to go through the crazy chewing and house training phase, I am your boy! Dont let my age fool you, I am high energy, love to walk and run, and usually outlast my foster parentsI am learning manners with my foster parents and I need to go to a home that wants to consistently learn new commands and reinforce good mannersI am smart! I walk very nicely on leash; I jumped right on the treadmill first time no problem, and I mastered the sit command within the first three days with my foster parents. I am not a large German shepherd, but I am all German shepherdI am sure of myself, alert, and always watching everything. I have that beautiful walking prance that you see on those dog competitions. Currently I am responding to clicker training, so it would be a plus if you wanted to continue with that type of trainingclicker training is a first for my foster parents too, so we are learning together. My parents would like to find a forever home that wants to continue training me. They say I have wonderful eye coordination with my parents on commands. I love playing with my chewy toys and usually carry around my red ball or Kong toy. I love rides in the car, good with kids, and probably would be good as part of a family with another dog companion. I am not very good with cats. My foster parents have four cats, and even though I show promise of coexisting with cats, it would be best to say that a non cat home would be best. I am into learning new things, no issues with loud noises, etc. I am healthy, have a beautiful fur coat, heart worm negative, neutered and canine flu-vaccinated. I would do well in an active home where there is time to train me into the awesome potential that I possesseven if you are new to training dogs like my foster parents. Please check out our web site at www.shepherdrescue.org for more information about our dogs, our adoption process and to download an application. You must have a fully approved application on file prior to privately meeting our dogs. We do not have a facility, all our dogs are housed in private foster homes throughout MD/DC/VA areas. More information available on our web site, so please read through our web site before emailing questions, as it might save us both some time! VGSR can only adopt dogs out in the Virginia/Maryland/DC area, no exceptions. Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security. The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $250.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed. |
