About Dory

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog

Hi! I'm the new kid on the block. I've been given the name "Dory" - have you seen "Finding Nemo"? My foster mom and dad call me a-DORY-ble, because I sure am awful cute. Good thing I'm cute, because I'm just a young thing and I'm just learning to have manners. I'm not sure what manners are, but they're not as fun as jumping on my people friends, and the counter, and the couch, and digging holes in the yard. I'm slowly learning to be a good girl, but it's awful hard. Even though I have a wild spirit, I also have a sweet side. I like lying on the couch and watching TV. Belly rubs are my all time favorite. Balls and squeeky toys are fun. My foster mom also has some very fluffy friends that walk around the house and pay me little attention. She calls them "kitties" and kitties are very interesting. Sometimes I just like to watch them. Sometimes I like to follow them around. Other times, I like to smell them in the most inappropriate places (or so my foster mom says), and they turn around and swat me. I mean them no harm at all, and wouldn't find having a kitty friend or two in my new home. I also wouldn't mind having other doggie friends to play with or to go to the park with. I love to run and play outside. My foster mommy is crate training me, and I do NOT like being in that box, and I cry because I'm sad when I can't see her, but it only takes me a little while to quiet down and go to sleep. I'm not sure if my ancestors are all from Germany, but it looks like I may have quite a bit of German Shepherd in me. I have one ear that is a little floppy (sometimes it does stand up), and my left eye has a tiny bit of blue in it (nah, foster mommy doesn't think I have any husky in me), but my coloring is right. I'm petite - will probably only reach about 40 lbs. in my adulthood. The vet says I'm probably about a year old, and that I'm super-healthy. I've already been spayed too, because my foster mommy says I don't need my babymaker - I'm just a baby myself. Note from foster mommy: Sweetheart with a wild side. She loves being outside with people and her doggie friends She'd do OK with kids, but she can jump very high, and might inadvertently hurt a child. A true diamond in the rough, not fearful of anything. Contact barbie@shepherdrescue.org for more information!

Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security.

The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $200.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed.
