6/26/25. Update on Mannie: Mannie’s personality is coming into focus after a month of fostering. He is observant, intelligent, and agile. Having learned them, he is an orderly participant in the routines of the house. He stands up easily on his hind legs to get a better look at things, quite the sight in such a tall dog. He remains focused on his top priorities: love and company. He leans in to praise like it’s the best thing in the world. He doesn’t like being excluded; he calmed down a lot once he realized that everyone gets a turn at things we can’t all do together. Treats and snacks are an important secondary consideration. He was a little crestfallen that I did not congratulate him on his foraging skills when he brought bread from the counter into the living room, but he did let me take it from him. His manners with his foster sister continue to be impeccable. He kisses up to her very politely, lets her teach him how to eat raspberries off the bushes in the backyard, and invites her to play with him.

Today was his first town outing. He watched calmly as a daycare class on a field trip walked by. He was focused but sat quietly when another dog passed about six feet in front of him. We entered the local dog-friendly coffee shop, just to get used to the idea of going in and out.

6/1/25. Meet Mannie! He's a bundle of squiggly love who can be calm when the occasion demands it. When you talk to him, he wiggles all over with joy. He's treat-motivated and very eager to please. He can't wait to check out his new environs. Despite this, he rode calmly in the car on his way home from the shelter and settled quietly into a crate. He met my older female VGSR alum with deference.

Mannie is a handsome all-black dog.  He came from a shelter as a stray, so his age is a guess. He gives off a gangly youthful energy, more a lover than a fighter. He would do well with someone who wants a Velcro dog to love and be loved by.
