Silkie (called Sam) 6306 was found as a stray. He spent several months in a shelter battling severe ear infections, skin infection that caused near complete hair loss and emaciation. Luckily VGSR was able to pull him to safety. One thing is clear and that is that poor Sam has experienced a great deal of suffering and total neglect.
Sam was recovering from starvation and as a result was very hungry. He would surf counters and get into the trash if not secured. He spent several weeks on a consistent meal schedule throughout the day.
He is now much more settled and relaxed after getting regular meals and learning to trust that someone is looking after him. He is gaining weight and isn't in a frenzy over food like he once was. He is slowly filling out but still has a ways to go. His hair is growing in with few spots still showing hair loss. He will eventually have a beautiful coat! He gets medicated baths a few times a week to help. His personality has really blossomed and is showing up in comical ways! He bebops through the apartment and down the street on walks. His energy levels are generally low but he does love to play with other dogs and with his person. He is kennel trained and sleeps in his kennel. He enjoys having a safe space and will sometimes hang out in his kennel and chew a bone. Although, most of the time he is following the other resident male GSD around and enjoys staying close to me. He will take his toys from room to room following me. He loves playing with his tennis ball, chewing bones or playing tug of war. He loves getting a good rub down and pets!
Sam has improved on his leash manners but he can be a puller. He does well with other dogs, male and female, and took very well to my dog Diesel. Sam is also GREAT with people and I believe he would be good with children. He has a wonderful disposition and is a very loving boy. He is smart, curious, and little bit clumsy.
Sam is a phenomenal dog who needs an adopter to give him a little TLC. He adjusted to my home in now time. He current lives in a one bedroom apartment in a downtown area with parks and does well. His energy level makes him a good apartment dog. He is house broken, neutered, UTD on vaccines, heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives.
Sam update 8/30: Sam moved into a new foster home due to his old foster's work schedule. (NO FAULT OF SAM WHAT-SO-EVER!!) He is thriving here with a large backyard and 3 other fur siblings to play with. Sam is doing amazing letting his foster parents know when he has to use the bathrooom and is an amazing cuddler! (see photos) He loves to watch his foster mom work while laying on his bed and is such a joy to be around. He loves his toys and all of the other dogs he has met thus far. He is so loving and smart- his future owners will be so lucky to have him. He is currently located in Richmond, VA!
He will make a very loyal, loving companion for a lucky family and is ready when you are to fill your heart as much as I hope you will fill his. Approved adopters may email Sam’s foster at AlexandraDKessler@gmail.com
