June 7, 2023 Update.  Charm has a new paw!

Last Thursday, Charm was fitted for his prosthetic and he started walking with it right away.  He sometimes reverts to a three-legged stride when he runs, but he is gradually learning to use his device for running too.  He is now taking 30-minute walks around the park and he is having a ball!

5/13/23  "Charming Charm joined VGSR from a shelter in West Virginia. His right front paw had gotten caught in a trap and had to be amputated. The surgery went well and he can manage fine on three legs for short (10-15 minute) walks.

Charm has got a lot of personality and he is well-socialized with people. He likes to crawl into your lap and give kisses! When we are out on walks, he will suddenly throw himself on the ground and roll all over the place – it’s like a doggy break dance! Because he is blowing his coat, I have been brushing him twice and a day and he loves it, rolling over so that he can get a tummy rub too."

Charm is a cuddler! He likes to snuggle with a human on the futon or in bed. He is quiet indoors – he really doesn’t care about anyone walking in the hallway or past the window of his condo.

So far, Charm has gotten along with all the other dogs he has met in a home setting, but he can be leash reactive/protective when we are out on walks. We are working on this by taking him for walks with neighbor dogs and feeding him treats when he behaves himself. He is really interested in the squirrels and bunnies running around the neighborhood, so he would not be good with cats or other small companion animals.

Charm is neutered and up-to-date on shots. He will be attending adoption events in Northern Virginia. Approved adopters may contact his foster at tnhuck@yahoo.com.
