Lailah was surrendered to a shelter by her owner, spayed a few days later and was terrified in the shelter environment.  Lailah started shutting down; was in shelter shock and was a very sick young lady, only weighing 47 lbs.  She had been in the shelter about thirty days, the shelter was at full capacity and her time was up.  We stepped up to save this precious little jewel and have had her four weeks.  She is slowly learning that humans and their hands can be loving and are not something to fear. It appears Lailah may have spent most of her young life outdoors with very little if any positive interactions with humans.  Lailah does have a hard time showing affection to her humans, she wants to be where ever her people are, but tail wags and licks are far and few between.  She learned how to be dog friendly with her two resident K-9 foster brothers, and loves romping, tussling and playing chase be it inside or out with her GSD foster brother Prince. Lailah is extremely smart and learns commands quickly (sit, stay, come, look, wait and let’s go potty) are commands she has learned over the last few weeks, we are working on leave it and bring it.  Lailah is food motivated so with food or a treat she will do most anything you ask her to do, otherwise she may have to think about it for a minute or two.  She is crate trained and pretty much potty trained; if you miss her cue at the door she may leave you a small puddle, she has only had a few accidents in the house.  She will counter surf at times, you definitely don’t want to leave your ham sandwich on the kitchen counter!  We are working on this as well. Lailah is still very much a puppy, she has two speeds fast and off.  She will need lots of good chew toys, to Lailah most anything she can get into her mouth may wind up being a chew toy.  Lailah will need a fenced yard and someone with previous GSD experience as well as training.
