About Josie (Courtesy Listing)

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with Tan, Yellow or Fawn

Josie is a loyal, smart, and beautiful German Shepherd who is waiting for just the right home. She prefers to be by her human’s side, is laid back, and LOVES water splashing her from a hose or sprinkler. Josie walks well on a leash when she’s relaxed and you can’t help but smile as you see her ears move around like radars! Josie has been around children as young as three multiple times and has welcomed their affection. At night, she is so dedicated to her human(s) that she ensures a sound and safe sleep by laying right next to the bed. Josie is a fantastic dog who has come a long way in the couple of months we have had her. She was not taught commands but has learned basic “sit”, “stay” and, “leave it”, quickly with reminders and treats! She likes to show off her intellect! She knows to sit before her harness and leash can be put on as well as before she is fed. I have had no problem removing her bowl of food from her after I say, “leave it”.

She is truly resilient, showing us nothing but love and eagerness for a new opportunity from her old 10’ pen she was confined to outside. She came into our home with two other dogs, male and female (alpha), and the three are just not “jiving”.  “Tiffs” with our female alpha have been rare but there is constant following around and fussing. Josie also had a two-night sleep- over with a male gentle giant; a Great Dane weighing in at 170lbs. We hoped being with a male would be different, however, she took advantage of his gentleness by resource guarding. With all of this learned, we still genuinely feel she is a FANTASTIC dog; a true and loyal companion and deserves to be your sole best friend, soaking up all of the undivided attention and love.  Josie is guessed to be around 3 years old. She is 66lbs and is up to date on her Rabies and Distemper vaccinations. She tested negative for Heartworm parasites and is currently on heartworm preventative. She is scheduled to be spayed in late August (cost covered by current foster). A fenced-in backyard isn’t a necessity as long as she is given walks and opportunities to relieve herself throughout the day.
