![]() Alfie |
Adoption Pending! Hi! My name is Alfie. Im a 4-month-old, male, GSD mix. Some really great people found me on the side of the road with my
brother and sister. Why would anyone think we could go dumpster diving, as little as we are, but the nice people at the VGSR are
giving us everything we could ever need, but right now, we need a forever home. I'm up-to-date on all my vaccines, and on
September 12, my foster mommy says I'm supposed to be neutered, whats that?? Oh, well. Anyhow, I'm kind of a shy-boy, but
I'm so very sweet, and can't wait to go to my forever home. If you’d like more info on me. please email my foster mommy at

![]() America |
Adoption Pending! America, we call her Meri for short, is a beautiful, sweet, energetic and smart puppy! After a very short period of time,
she has acclimated perfectly to her new foster home. She came to the shelter as a stray and thus far has not exhibited any
behavior that would indicate abuse. She is currently living with two female GSDs and a cat. Meri has chased the cat when
he runs, but when the cat is on the counter or in a chair she licks him. She plays well with the two GSDs she is living with
and she loves bones and toys. She doesn't know a lot, but she is smart and very willing to please. She loves to cuddle and
give kisses, she is a sweetie!! She has gone for car rides and boat rides and has loved it all. If you are interested in meeting
Meri, she will be at adoption days. SRVA

![]() Baby #6 |
Adoption Pending! Baby came to us from a back yard in Southern Virginia where she spent the first 5 years of her life as a breeder. In the past
3 months she has recovered fully and is healthy and waiting to find her forever home. She is extremely sweet, loving and gentle.
She gets along well with our 4 dogs and has proven herself to be very trustworthy in the house. She really enjoys playing with
squeaky toys, and has adopted a stuffed hedgehog as her own. She enjoys her walks and has been to the local dog park a few
times. She would be fine with regular walking and does not need to be heavily exercised. She responds very well to a firm voice
but has not really needed much discipline to fit in and get along well with others. She can be playful with other dogs and has
shown to have a mothering instinct around smaller dogs and puppies. The only issue we have is that she is extremely intelligent
and resourceful and has shown willingness to jump our fence when bored, even though she does not venture off the property just
seems to be curious and in need of our attention. She is ready and very eager to show her love and loyalty. Are you her forever
family? Come meet her at an adoption event. ZPVA

![]() Beauty #3 |
Adoption Pending! Beauty is a 1-year-old, petite, spayed, female German Shepherd Dog. She was a stray so we don't know much about her
history. We do know that she is smart, house-trained, and good in her crate. Beauty has had no formal training, but she is
anxious to please, and probably would enjoy agility. She does well with other friendly dogs, preferably males. No idea about
cats. Older children would be better as she is still something of a mouthy puppy. She has all her shots, is too skinny at about
45 lbs. To meet Beauty, e-mail Karrie at

![]() Brian |
Adoption Pending! My name is Brian. I was left tied out at a West Virginia shelter. It was so hot and I had no water that I had a seizure. The
shelter wanted to euthanize me because they didn't know how to deal with it. On top of that the shelter has no AC. So, a nice
VGSR volunteer agreed to take me in and give me a chance. I have not had a seizure since. I am a very laid-back boy. I love
everyone; dogs, cats and people. It is unknown if I am good with children, but given my personality I think they would be fine.
If you're looking for a calm friend, then I'm the man for you. I would fit in just about anywhere, from an apartment to a country
home. PFMWV

![]() Buddy #8 |
Adoption Pending! Buddy is turning into one of the sweetest and most laid-back dogs we've ever fostered. He gets along with other dogs and
seems to adore humans of all sizes, especially children. He doesn't seem at all interested in cats or other little furry crittters.
He is not a high-energy or high-prey-drive dog. Buddy is house-trained and crate-trained. Although he is still a skinny guy at
around 60 lbs. his health has improved and so have his social skills. He is learning to walk nicely on a leash (using a Gentle
Leader) and is starting to understand other commands, like 'sit' and 'down'. He is mostly a big love sponge, and whoever takes
the time to love him and continue his training will be rewarded with complete and total love and devotion. If you are
interested in meeting Buddy, please e-mail

![]() Carmen #2 |
Adoption Pending! Carmen MUST be placed with another dog. She is very, very SHY and prefers dogs over people. After a week in foster care
she still runs for cover if I approach her. Outside she will just lie down and roll over to be picked up. She is very sweet. To see
her play with the other dogs is wonderful. With hope, she will come around soon as she sees the others do. She will walk on a
leash but only after a few minutes to laying down and then will only go where she wants to. She will need to be placed with
someone who has lots of patience. LTVA

![]() Charlotte |
Adoption Pending! Charlotte is long-haired, female German Shepherd. She was turned in to Animal Control for being a puppy and was too
much for her owners. She is a very sweet girl with a gorgeous coat that will require a lot of brushing. She had many mats
throughout her coat and it was obvious she was not properly groomed in her prior home. She gets along with all of her foster
brothers and sisters. She loves toys and quickly discovered the toy box. She has managed to play with every single dog toy in
the house. She also has adapted to the comforts of home enjoys lounging on the couch and is a snuggle bug. She is looking for
an active home that will give her the proper exercise a young GSD needs. She will also need lots of love, snuggle time and a
playmate wound be wonderful. Continued socialization with other dogs and people will guarantee she stays the well-rounded
girl she already is so this is a must with her forever home. DDVA

![]() Coty |
Adoption Pending! My name is Coty. I'm a shepherd mix, and like my my brother Alfie, we were found dumpster diving..humans these days!!
I'm up-to-date on my shots, and my foster mommy says I need this surgery, on the 12th of September, for neutering, and I’ll be
good to go to my forever home. My foster mommy says Im very outgoing, and very brave. I love attention as well as kisses. And
I'm doing very well learning to walk nicely on the leash, I just need a little more practice and some patience. I don’t seem to know
what cats are. I think I want to play, although they don’t like me when I get all excited. But as you can see, I'm handsome. You
can't just have one kiss. I'm hard to resist!!! Please contact my foster mommy at

![]() Daisy #6 |
Adoption Pending! Daisy is a 3-year-old, female, German Shepherd Dog. She came to VGSR due to a divorce and a move, which left no time
for the dog. She has lived indoors and around young teenage children and two cats. The owner reported that Daisy would chase
the cats but didn't hurt them. She has made herself at home around her new foster siblings right from the start. Her demeanor
is very friendly and outgoing with strangers. Daisy requires a small amount of a pancreatic enzyme supplement powder with her
food, but with that she has no problems. She is a young adult, active, and very healthy. Daisy is looking for a stable and
permanent home and she will repay you with years of love and devotion. You can contact the foster home at
vadogrescue@aol.com if you have any questions. JBVA

![]() Darling |
My foster father rescued me from the Warren County Animal Shelter. I really don’t remember much about my life
before I moved in with my foster parents. I do remember that I was a stray for close to a month before I decided life on
my own was not such a good deal and agreed to let the animal control officer catch me. I really love my foster home.
There are always things going on and I like to play with the other dogs and even sometimes with “Mr. Chubbs” who I
think is a cat. Sometimes I chase him because I want to play but I’ll never hurt him. My foster dad says I’m real smart
because I learn things quickly. He also says I show a quiet self confidence and can dominate the other dogs without any
need to fight or cause conflict. I enjoy people but really like children. I have lots of fun at the adoption events with all the
people petting me and saying I’m a pretty girl. I’ve really bonded with my foster parents and wish I could live with them
but that would mean they can’t help other dogs like me. I had a tough time while out on my own and had some terrible
experiences I don’t want to talk about. I get very upset when people yell and I don’t like seeing raised hands or anyone
swinging a stick. It just scares me but I deal with it as best I can. I was pretty sick (worms, lyme disease, malnutrition, etc.)
when first rescued but I’m receiving great medical care and expect to get a clear bill of health by October 15. I then need to
be spayed and should be ready for my “forever” home by late October. Oh by the way, my foster parents insist that I go to
a special home where I can get the love and attention they say I deserve. They will not let me go to a home where everyone
is gone during the day. I’m OK being home alone but it upsets me because I’m afraid my people will never come back. They
also want me to go to a home with at least one other dog and hopefully children as well. Before I forget my name shows as
Darling but I prefer to be called Annie.

![]() Gretchen #3 |
Adoption Pending! Gretchen is a stunning covergirl GSD. She is also very very sweet. She has a soft personality and truly wants to please
and get her long-deserved affection. Gretchen walks well on a leash, sits on command, and just loves baths. It appears that
Gretchen did not get much attention in the first 6 years of her life, so she is discovering the world anew with VGSR. She is
crate-trained and has gotten this house-training thing down quite well. She is good with small children - has an abundance
of kisses for them. She is good with dogs as long as they do not overpower her and she shows little interest in the dog-savvy
cat. If you would like to learn more about Gretchen, please contact Susan at

![]() Heidi #5 |
Adoption Pending! Heidi is about as sweet a GSD as you will ever meet. When she was rescued, she had a serious case of bladder stones as well
as bladder and ear infections. Despite her discomfort, she never had a grumpy word for anyone. Thanks to VGSR, she's healed
from the surgery to remove the stones and her infections are gone. We're working on a plan to make sure she never has another
one of those sturvite stones again. Heidi is an A+++ companion dog. She loves people - men, women, children, and she gets along
well with other dogs. She seems to have a low prey drive. Heidi is house-trained, only chews on her dog toys, and is
crate-tolerant. She loves to snuggle and wants a forever home where she is part of the action. Other than an occassional raid on
the trash can, Heidi has earned the privilege of having free roam of her foster home. She walks well on a leash, likes car rides,
and knows a few commands. Her favorite trick is to "speak" and she loves to catch kibbles in mid-air. Heidi is looking for a
forever home that will make a commitment to give her daily exercise to help her achieve and then maintain a healthy weight.

![]() Jade #2 |
Adoption Pending! 'She's got legs and she knows how to use them'.......anyone know why my foster mom keeps singing that to me? I mean I
am very tall for my age, and I'm all legs, but really she doesn't sing good. I'm new to VGSR, but already in LOVE with my
foster mom and her teenage kid. I live with 2 4-legged sisters and we get along just fine, I really am not sure how to play with
them yet, but they are tolerating me and trying to show me the ropes. I am trying to learn not to jump up on people, or
counter-cruise but hey, I think I've already gotten better at that in just 2 days. Anyway, if you want to meet me, just come out
to some of the adoption days VGSR is having on the weekends, I'll be there with my long legs and kisses to greet you. GSVA

![]() Jake #11 |
Adoption Pending! Hi! My name is Jake. I came to Shepherd Rescue when my Mom died and there was no one to care for me. I am a medium
size, red sable German Shepherd mixed with a little bit of something else perhaps one of the Belgian Shepherds. I am a gentle,
happy, loving guy. Although I am 8 years old, I love to run and play with the younger dogs in my foster family. I love to play
with the 9-month-old puppy. I am a bit overweight so my foster Mom has me on a diet. I walk nicely on a lead and know how to
sit and down. I attended an obedience class as a substitute and did very well with all the exercises. I did well with the dogs
there and said hi to some children that were watching. I also attended a doggy playday and had a good time with all the dogs
there. I have lived with cats and behave very well with the cat here. KJVA

![]() Jane |
Adoption Pending! Jane is a beautiful, black-tipped sable, energetic adult female GSD, probably of European working lines. She is about 3.5
years old and a big girl at 92 pounds and carries it well. Her owner has terminal cancer and has asked VGSR to help find a new
home for Jane. During the last 3 years she has lived in a row house in DC. That environment did not provide for much
socialization or training. However, Jane is extremely well-behaved, with the right person. She is very intelligent and has taken
well to training. She is a dominant female but has come a long way in responding to commands and getting along with other
dogs. She now knows and obeys "Down," "Sit," "Stand," "Stay," "Wait," "Leave it," "Come," and "Let's Go." She is
crate-trained, house-trained, and is well behaved in the house. She is a super companion and somewhat protective. She will
follow her person all around the house. She will give you a good snuggle and a strong lean but is not a couch dog or kisser. She
will greet you with lots of enthusiasm and wagging tail and will stick by your side. She likes cats, but not in a good way. Although
much improved on her socialization, Jane still bears watching with people and dogs until her reaction is judged. She has shown
some reaction to a few people, some of which could have been considered to present an adversarial posture when approaching
or near her. She and another female foster had some issues that they worked out but she has been fine with our 2 male dogs.
She is protective, but not aggressive over her food and toys with other dogs, but not with her person. Jane loves to chase toys
and likes to tug. She also loves to go for long hikes in the woods, and she sticks very close even when off leash. Jane has a minor
skin condition that is controlled by a daily vitamin E plus fish oil capsule. Other than that she is a robustly healthy dog. She
enjoys grooming and rough play when petting and scratching. She is agile, athletic, and has a great gait. She is good on leash
and really knows what a leash is for, just so you don't forget, she will bring it to you. Jane needs a job and would be best suited
for a family with strong GSD experience. Her new home will need to devote the time to continuing her learning to help Jane
meet her true potential as a great GSD. Please contact
martin.shepherd@att.net or your case worker to learn more about her.

![]() Jang Sae |
Adoption Pending! I would like to introduce you to Jang Sae. He is a beautiful, six-year old boy, who was dumped at the shelter because his
family was moving away. To us, he seems a lot younger than six, but that is what his paperwork says. He was very nervous
after spending 20 days in the shelter, and he lost weight in that timeframe, but now he is responding quickly to being in a home
with a pack. He is quiet and alert and very intelligent. He was outside on our deck and wanted to be inside and he was trying to
open the door; he had the heavy glass door open several inches when we noticed. Jang Sae is okay on the leash, he pulls a little
as if he has somewhere to be, but responds well to direction. He knows some basic commands in English, but we were told he
knows commands in Korean. We are working toward figuring out some of those commands. Jang will be attending adoption
events in the Northern Virginia region and if you would like to meet him or if you have any questions, feel free to email us at

his new foster home. He has the most beautiful big brown eyes that you can just gaze into all day long. he's also very smart,
loves to cuddle, and loves his toys! he lives with another German Shepherd dog named Max and gets along great with him;
they love to play! He cries when being crated, poor boy! He does need to learn some manners but all in all he's a beautiful
boy, and would be a great a great family dog and companion, if you would like to know more or would like to meet Jericho,

![]() Jesse #3 |
Adoption Pending! Jesse is a 5-year-old, female, long-haired GSD with a sad story behind her. She was bought as a puppy as a service dog for
a deaf child. Jesse was trained for 6-8 weeks by a professional trainer, then the owner completed the training, but it appears she
was most likely used more as a companion dog than as a deaf service dog. Jesse joined the family when the deaf child was 9. After
serving as a guardian and companion to their child for five years, the child grew up and no longer needed the dog and so Jesse's
family repaid her service by dumping her at a shelter. In terms of disposition, Jesse is very gentle and sweet with adults and
children, as befits a child service dog. She is house-trained, good on leash, and knows basic commands. Due to her probable use as
a companion dog rather than a deaf service dog, her retention of original training is uncertain. For use as a service dog, she will
need to be re-evaluated by a trainer who could determine the quality of the original training. As a companion dog we think she
will work out great. Jesse is used to being an only dog. She is learning to share her her personal space, toys, and humans with her
foster sister. The longer hair requires more grooming but she loves to be brushed and readily flops over on her back for belly
rubs. She will make a tremendous pet, especially for families with younger children.

![]() Jewels |
Adoption Pending! Jewels came to us because her owner could not financially care for her. She is up-to-date on her shots as well as being
spayed. Jewels rides well in our truck. From the moment we got her, she has been right at home - a first for us! She is a
friendly, ACTIVE dog and the introduction to all our dogs went smoothly. Jewels gets along well with our kids and isn't excited
by them playing. She walks well on lead with a flat buckle collar but did try to chase a rabbit she saw running. She can easily be
walked by my 8-year-old daughter on the flat collar. Jewels responds well to voice and leash corrections. She LOVES to play
fetch with a ball! Jewels either drops the ball at your feet then backs up or stands several feet away and throws the ball to you.
If you wait too long to throw the ball, she will come to take it from you. She seems to know the difference between the kids' toys
and the dog toys we have. Jewels is house-trained, crate-trained, and rides well in a vehicle. She has alerted us to strangers
after only five days here. Bonding occurs quickly, she appeared to be jealous by butting in while I greeted several dogs at the
adoption day in Gainesville. She got along well with all the dogs on a one on one basis, including small dogs. Several dog-savy
cats, safely behind an enclosure, came to the front to greet Jewels. She sniffed through the ventilation area without a negative
response. With her lovable personality, Jewels probably won't be in foster care long. Veterinary records indicate that she has
mild to moderate dysplasia in both hips along with bone spurs and is on Glycoflex to help lubricate the joints. She doesn't show
any signs of pain, isn't on any pain relievers, and does't show any efferts of dysplasia other than rarely losing her footing in the
rear when making sharp, fast turns. Jewels should do even better after losing some unneeded weight. Her condition will
probably worsen as she gets older and will probably need further veterinary care, possibly to the point of surgery. She will need
a home with a large yard to run and play fetch in. If she doesn't get her play time, her energy could become destructive. She
wants to spend as much time as she can with her new family. A family with children would be a big plus as well as not being left
alone for long periods. She was allowed to have run of the house with her previous owners. LJVA

![]() Kitzel |
Adoption Pending! Kitzel came to us with a broken tibia. She's being treated for this and hopefully will be better soon. Little Kitzel seems to
be a bit of a barker, but once approached is fine. If she barks at a dog, usually she cries once the dog comes up to her. I believe
the barking is a sign of Kitzel trying to be the big girl first (but miserably failing). For a dog with a broken leg she does not let
that get in her way. She's learning her house manners and seems to be very smart. There will be more on Kitzel later. LTVA

![]() Lady #15 |
Adoption Pending! Hi, my name is Lady. I am a medium-sized, black-and-tan, female GSD. I am quiet and gentle indoors. I do well in a crate,
but I prefer being close to a person. Outdoors I love to investigate everything and I have made friends with the other dogs in
my foster home. I am a bit dominant with other dogs, but I am fitting in well with a few corrections. When I first came, I did
not like the puppy that lives here, but now we are good friends. I am learning to live a house and behave very well. I know
how to sit and down. I love to roll over for belly rubs. I pull a little on a lead, but I am learning to do better. I am very
interested in the cat that lives here and want to chase it. When I came, I was in heat and was being treated for a small problem.
I will be spayed in March. I am happy in a quiet home, and am getting used to being out with other dogs and people. I get very
worried if there is a lot of noise or activity. My foster Mom is gradually taking me out to get me used to people and noises. I
would do best in a calm home. KJVA

![]() Marisol |
Adoption Pending! Marisol is currently 4 months of age. She is a German Shepherd/Lab mix (mom full German Shepherd and dad Black
Labrador). She is ok with the vet. She is spayed, has all shots up-to-date, and when she turns 1 she gets the 3-year rabies shot.
Right now she has a 1 year rabies. She is crate- and house-trained. She loves to play. Loves to lie in the kiddie pool when she is
hot, and then dries herself in the sun, thus the name - Mar means ocean, and sol means sun. Likes to follow you around, likes
to watch TV, and just hang around and chew on her nylabone. She likes her dry food with water in it, or she will not eat it.
She knows the commands "sit" and "down". Loves belly rubs. She will let you know when she needs to go out by going to the
door and in the morning she barks to be let out. She is used to being in a fenced yard. I let her and my guys out to play on their
own and she enjoys it. When its too hot or cold I bring them all inside. It does take her a bit to warm up to poeple, but then she
is good. She is good with other dogs and kids. Not sure about cats, so far she is indifferent. She will let you put your hand in her
food, and in her mouth. She will let you cut her claws if you are comfortable doing so. She still drools in the car when we have
to go to the vet.

![]() Maxine #2 |
Adoption Pending! Maxine, a very loyal and loving dog, was rescued with her five puppies. She has a wonderful temperament and gets along
great with dogs and children. She is eager to please and will sit, stay, come, lay, roll over, and shake on voice or hand signals.
Maxine is a special needs dog and she deserved better care than what she got. Her hip condition could have been easily
corrected, and because it was not, she has endured a life of pain and her condition has gotten worse. The good news is VGSR
will ensure that Maxine receives the care she needs and the doctor believes that with hip surgery she will have a normal life.
Despite all this, she is a wonderful dog and even loves to play ball. If you would like to help with medical expenses for Maxine
or the other special dogs, you may make a tax-deductible donation. You can contact Maxine’s foster home at
sandal@frontiernet.net if you have any questions or want an update. You can also meet Maxine at adoption events

![]() Piper #2 |
Adoption Pending! Hi, my name is Piper. I was returned to the rescue by my former human for a little abnormal behavior, and my new foster
mom says I suffer from separation anxiety. You see, my problem was I didn't have any other dogs to play with, but now that I
have a brother and a sister in my pack, I'm much calmer and easy going. My foster mom also says I should be placed in a home
where my new human will be there with me much of the day. She also says that I need to go to a home where I can have
structured walks every day. These walks help me to be calmer throughout the day. As you can see by my pictures, I'm quite
beautiful and foster mom says I'm very smart, too. I adore kids, cats and other dogs, and pretty much love everything and
everybody. If you think you might have the right home for me, just e-mail my foster mom at

Adoption Pending! Ramsey is a owner-surrender because the owner was away to many hours a day. He is very athletic and use to 3-8 mile
walks a day in the mountains. Even with being kept indoors for such long days he is very well behaved inside, he is not a barker.
He is crate-trained. He loves to play fetch with any toy there is. He knows sit, down, come, shake, and speak, he also walks well
on leash. He does show a dominant side towards some male dogs (large) but will respond to correction. He has stayed with small
dogs and there wasn't an issue. He adores children, his former owner has 9 small grand children. He has been known to chase
cats but once he reached them he would give a smell, so not to sure about cats even though he has never harmed one. He will
be attending adoption events in Front Royal, Winchester and Gainsville if you would like to meet this handsome boy. THVA

![]() Reese |
Adoption Pending! Reese is a 20-month-old, 70 lb. female, Dutch-colored Shepherd that was turned in to the Ann Arundel, MD, shelter by her
previous owners who were no longer able to care for her. She is a typical 2-year-old GSD that if very playful and has lots of
energy but is also very well behaved. Reese responds well to commands and is one of the best GSD's you will find around people.
She knows sit, stay, come and always listens when you tell her what to do. She is great around people - really loves everyone -
and was raised with four young children in the home. She is social and wonderful around other dogs but is not good around cats
and should go to a cat-free home. She is fair on a leash and getting better ever day with her leash manners. She is house-trained
and tolerates but doesn't love her crate. She was recently spayed and is up to date on all her shots. If you are looking for a sweet

Adoption Pending! Romell was turned in to high-kill shelter by his owners, stating he counter-surfed and could open the refrigerator. He
hasn't tried to open this one yet. He is one big love bug whom seems to just want to get along with everyone. He loves to
play with the jolly ball and sticks. He is a calm shepherd that just can't get enough pets and hugs, he would follow you

quickly. Come meet this tall handsome fellow at upcoming adoption events. THVA

![]() Sabrina #4 |
Adoption Pending! Sabrina came to VGSR from Amherst, Virginia on Wednesday, July 16th. She was a stray so we don't know much about
her history. We do know that she is smart, house-trained, and good in her crate once she is in it. She is gradually improving
with her crate training. Sabrina is an incredibly sweet and affectionate dog, but in need of some manners. She is a bit dominant
with other dogs, but she is fitting in with a few corrections. She is on antibiotics because she tested positive for Lyme disease.
More updates as we learn more about her. She will be attending Northern Virginia adoption days. You can contact the foster
home at
pmcgill520@aol.com if you have any questions. MPVA

![]() Sadie #11 |
Adoption Pending! Hi, my name is Sadie. I'm a very shy girl that likes to be with someone all the time. I get a little anxious when I'm left alone.
My foster mom has only had me a couple days and this is what she noticed about me. I was a stray, which might explain this
feeling, but I'm sure I will get better with time. I'm a 1-year-old shepherd mix. I like to play with my new pal, a pug and try to
play with the cat but he's not to sure about me, maybe in time.

![]() Sam #8 |
Adoption Pending! Hi. I am Sam, I am. And I am one gorgeous animal. I am black and tan, and have big paws like a lion. My foster mom says
that I have a huge head. Well I do weigh about 100 pounds after all. When I walk down the street, people say "wow, he is
handsome". But I'm not conceited. I'm a really nice boy. At 9 years old, I'm pretty laid back. My favorite thing is to just be with
my family. I also get along well with other dogs. I have 2 foster brothers and a bossy foster sister. She is only 60 pounds but she
tells me where to go and what to do. I like her so I just do what she tells me. I don't need a whole bunch of exercise, just a few
nice walks a day will do me. My foster mom says that I am a gentle giant. Anyway, enough about me. I'd like to hear from you
if you are looking for the perfect companion to hang out with. My foster mom and I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks,
Sam. MDVA

![]() Samantha #3 |
Adoption Pending! Samantha had her surgery and is making her recovery. Thanks to all the donations, she has started her rehab and is doing
very well with it. She uses an underwater treadmill (watch her video)
and we do a lot of exercises at home to strengthen her muscles and train her new elbows. We would like to find someone who can
continue it with her as that would be a rewarding experience for both Sam and her new family. Now that she has started her
therapy she is coming around and starting to build both stamina and energy and is back to playing with her friends. Sam currently
takes glucosamine, chondroitin, omega 3, and ester C to help her elbows and will need to continue with those. Sam is a very
submissive girl and will make any family proud. She isn't demanding at all and tries very hard to please everybody she meets.
Sam and her two and four-legged friends greatly appreciate all the donations and good thoughts she has received and continue to
welcome more. You can contact Samantha's foster home at
muraenidae@verizon.net if you have any questions or want an update on her. LMVA

![]() Shey |
Adoption Pending! Anyone for WWF and Nascar? Shey is a happy, curious, personable, and smart 2-year-old male GSD. He is polite and
well-mannered inside, but is a dynamo outside. He needs plenty of exercise and is a good jogging buddy. He does have
separation anxiety and must be crated when you are not home. However, he likes his crate and will go in upon command. Shey
has shown only a fleeting interest in children and doesn’t appear to bond with them. Shey would really like a canine wrestle
buddy and one he can race around a fenced yard with and investigate everything. Shey has learned basic obedience commands
such as sit, down, stay, off, leave it, settle down, and come. At night he sleeps by my bed on a soft pillow that he appreciates. He
is being fostered in the Shenandoah Valley. Contact
joyce4gsd@yahoo.com to meet this neat guy. RJVA

![]() Smoke |
Adoption Pending! Smoke is a 4 1/2-month-old, male, GSD puppy. He is a beautiful Black and Tan boy with Silver Sable highlights on his
back. Smoke was surrendered to the Peninsula SPCA because his Dad is going on deployment and his Mom has a newborn
baby and a senior family member to care for at home. No time for poor Smoke! Smoke caught a case of kennel cough while
at the shelter and he’s being treated for that now. He is a very friendly, happy and playful puppy. Thankfully, his stay at
the SPCA hasn’t resulted in any behavioral problems. Smoke is very intelligent and attentive; he knows the Sit, Wait and
Crate commands. He walks very nicely on leash, with very little if any pulling. Smoke is pretty much house-trained, although
he should be watched since there are so many new distractions for a young, four-and-a-half-month-old pup. He is also
crate-trained and easily obeys the Crate command when it’s time for him to go to bed. Smoke is all puppy and will make
someone a wonderful, life-long companion.

![]() Star #5 |
Star is a very friendly and sociable young female that just loves life. She enjoys playing with her foster father’s two
German Shepherds and one Labrador. The other dogs swim in the pool everyday but Star is unsure about water and hates
getting a bath. She is very curious and likes to explore the back yard with the rest of the dogs. She is cautious but not afraid
of anything. She always steals Jolly balls and other toys from Enzo (our big six year old male) who growls at her but all in all
seems happy to have another female in his pack. Star shows no indication of abuse and clearly lived in a home probably with
children. She is house-trained and very good in the house. Her favorite place to chill out is in her crate in her foster dad’s
office. When we can’t find her in the house that’s the first place we look. She does not like bicycles and garbage trucks.

![]() Stonewall |
Adoption Pending! Hi! My name is Stonewall. I was turned in to VGSR by my Navy dad who was getting out and couldn’t take me with him. I
had a trip to the vet, who got rid of my nasty worms and fleas and neutered me. Then I went off to my forever home. Except,
my new mom and dad thought I played too rough with their Pekingese and that I whined too much. So, they brought me back to
VGSR. Now I’m living with my foster mom and dad, and it’s GREAT! I have an 8-year-old GSD sister to run and wrestle with.
When I get rough with her, she puts me in my place! :o) We run and run and run around the backyard. Foster mom says I need
to learn some house manners. I do like to cruise the counters for goodies. And once, I got in the trash can. And she says I have to
keep all four on the floor. She means my feet, cos’ I jump up when I’m excited. But I listen real hard and I try my best to
understand what she wants. When I get it right, foster mom gives me kisses and hugs and calls me a “love sponge”. That’s cos’
I just soak it up. I’m still looking for my forever home. Do you need an energetic “love sponge” at your house? Just give my
foster mom & dad a call!

![]() Trooper #2 |
Adoption Pending! Trooper is a 2-year-old, handsome GSD. His owners have decided to let him go to a home that can give him the exercise
and care he so desperately needs. Obedience training is also recommended once Trooper finds his forever home. Once settled
down, he does seem to get along with other dogs, but his behavior is unknown with cats. He is not food motivated, but does
love to play ball. Trooper is very alert and interested in everything around him when walking on leash. He does tend to pull
quite a bit and will need someone willing to work with him on this. Trooper presently lives in a home with a young girl and does
fine. However; it is not recommended that he go to a home with young children. Trooper is crate-trained, and according to his
owners, is very protective of his crate. Like most GSDs, he is somewhat protective of his home and family. For this reason,
Trooper should only be placed in a home with someone who has experience with GSDs. If you have any questions, or would like
to meet Trooper, please contact
