| "How do you spell wonderful? We spell it “MAX.” Max, a 19-month-old, long-haired GSD, has an incredible
disposition. We can’t say enough good things about this handsome boy. Max is a “leaner” who just wants to be close to and please
his humans. He gets along well with his foster canine sister and has a happy greeting for the people he meets. This skinny boy
came to VGSR after his previous owner turned him in to a shelter because he was being deployed. Max came to us significantly
underweight. After extensive testing, we just found out that Max has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). EPI isn't bad, it
just means that Max needs to have supplemental enzymes with his food and stay on a low fat diet. Donations to VGSR to help
cover the cost of Max’s diagnostic lab work would be gratefully accepted. Hopefully, he will now gain weight and continue to
grow to the large boy he should be. He is a very active dog and has a high ball drive. His humans tire of throwing balls and sticks
long before Max wears out. While Max is house-trained in the strict definition, we’ve been working on improving his house
manners. He will “counter surf” looking for food or interesting toys (Max’s head easily reaches the kitchen counter tops), if he is
given any opportunity and also seems to enjoy recycling used paper products from the trash can (read that chewing paper goods
or playing keep away with them). Max is food-driven but not food-aggressive. He takes his treats gently. Max is a very smart
GSD who is learning his basic commands and needs an active home where his lessons will be continued. Because of his size and
his puppy-like behavior (he is still mouthy), Max is looking for an active loving forever home with no small children. He is being
fostered in Northern Virginia. KHVA
