On Monday evening, April 14, 2008, my husband, Charlie, and I were making a quick stop at the Kroger in Sabraton for a
few extra groceries; this store is just outside of Morgantown, WV (home of WVU (West Virginia University)). But, as I left the
store, there was a rather large German Shepherd entering the store. About a half hour later, it was determined that this dog
was homeless/lost/runaway, whatever you want to label it; he was found without a collar. The Kroger employees had no option
but to call 911 to request a dog warden, but about 20 minutes later, they were told that no warden was available, and the dog
should simply be shoo'd away. By that time, I had gone back into Kroger's, bought a collar and leash and some dog treats for the
confused dog. Several people and a few employees expressed concern and sympathy for the dog, but no one was willing to take
the dog home. So, Charlie and I agreed to bring BB (Big Boy) home with us. We are considering ourselves to be "temporary
foster parents" for BB. He is a very easy-going, gentle, good-natured dog. He walks really well on a leash, and does not "drag"
you around. With his easy-going, good nature, he might be a good dog for an older person. He seems like an older, mature dog,
but we're taking him to the vet tomorrow, and we'll know more after that visit. We're not sure that for long-term he's compatible
with our loveable little dog, Boof, and so we're looking to place him in a good home if we can't find his original owners. If you are
interested in BB, or know someone who is, please let us know! We have made an attempt to find his original owners by placing an
advertisement in the Dominion Post and in a radio notice with the local radio station, but we have not received any calls so far.
We also left our phone number and address with the Kroger store manager, but have not had a response from them. This
morning I called local vets and the Morgantown dog adoption center (a.k.a. the dog pound) to report a found dog, but so far, no
nibbles. At the suggestion of a friend, we have also used several websites on the internet to post BB as a found dog. The websites
we posted to are: DogDetective.com, LostandPound.com, LostandFound.com, Lostfoundpets.us, and PetFinder.com. Charlie took
BB to the vet on 4/17/08, and found out that he is about 8 years old, and is in basically good health. He has a little of the hip
displaysia that goes with big dogs, but the vet said it was within normal range for a dog his age. The vet also gave him some
medication to settle his stomach; he's been eating a lot of grass; and a rabies shot just to be on the safe side! Charlie then went to
the local dog shelter and spoke with the dog warden. He had taken BB with him in the truck, and had left the windows down.
When he came back to the truck, BB had jumped out of the truck, but had stayed nearby. The dog warden saw this, and
surmised that possibly BB had jumped out of a vehicle that had been in the parking lot of the grocery store, or gassing up
somewhere nearby. Contact Sandy via e-mail at
SANDYWALBRIDGE@cs.com if this is your dog or you are interested in adopting him.
