Emily #2

Adopted!

Emily #2 is a very pretty, black and light tan female. She is 4 years old and weighs 71 lbs. Emily was recently spayed, and is recovering from her surgery. She is feeling quite overwhelmed with all the changes she has gone through recently. Up until a few days ago, she was one of two German Shepherds owned by a family. The wife became ill and couldn't handle both dogs, and Emily was given up to the shelter. Her companion was an older, male German Shepherd. According to their former owner, they got along fine, although Emily was a little bossy. She used to take all the toys away from him. To get around that, the male would steal the balls from her and hide them. For now, she is getting used to being in a home with four other dogs, and she will have to learn to share. She enjoys playing with balls. Although she is not allowed to run at the moment, I can see the gleam in her eyes when she gets one in her mouth. She is a little suspicious of strangers, but warms up quickly. She has met a few children here, and seems fine with them. I was told she is not good with cats, so the resident cats here are in hiding. She was great during the car ride to her new foster home. She has some obedience, but definitely needs more training. She pulls on her leash, and will jump up for attention. It won't take much to teach her good manners. She is a smart girl who will do well with training. Emily is very motivated by food, and even feels comfortable enough to ask for people food. She is not crate-trained, and protests a bit when asked to stay in one for a while. Part of that is her reluctance to be alone. She was never alone while she was with her former family. She would be OK with other dogs as long as she could be alpha. She has a dominant streak, and even these huge changes lately have not broken her spirit. We are working on getting her pictures on the site so you can all see how pretty she is.
