VGSR's Adopted German Shepherd Dogs, T-Z

Updated on Saturday, 04/12/2008

T. Bear

Adopted!

OK - If I was looking for a dog to adopt - T. Bear would be the one. He is magnificent. He is absolutely gorgeous, well-behaved, rides well, and is just an all around polite gentleman. If you are eating and you tell him to "go lie down", he does. When he plays fetch, (which he LOVES) he will not just bring the ball back, he actually puts it right in your hand. He knows the commands sit, down and shake. He is very tolerant of being groomed, which is a very good thing since he is a long-coated GSD. I have fostered hundreds of dogs and he is one of the nicest, easiest dogs that I have ever had pass through my home. If Remo (one of my dogs) would let me, I would adopt this guy myself. He also likes to cuddle in bed! SLVA
Adopted: 07/24/07.

Tami

Adopted!

Hi, I'm Tami. I'm an 8-week-old, 14 lbs., pure-bred German Shepherd Dog; happy, healthy and full of puppy energy. I love everybody and everything - I even play with the cat-thing. I'm taking puppy lessons now and I'm a quick learner, so I'll be ready for my forever home soon. My foster home is in Northern Virginia. GSAVA
Adopted: 04/15/04.

Tango
Pictures coming soon...

Adopted!

Tango is a handsome, black and tan purebred male, about 3 years old. He is only about 75 pounds and is great with kids and other dogs. He would prefer to be the dominant dog. Tango has had some training and his foster mom is giving him some advanced skills. He does have the "ball-fever" and would love someone to teach him flyball. Like many GSDs, Tango needs a family that will keep him busy and challenged. He needs to keep learning and active. Tango wants you to meet him in person. Bring a ball, though.

Tango #2

Adopted!

Tango was released to us as a pure-bred puppy. I don't know that I agree. I think there is a little mix of something else. Tango loves to play and sometimes he plays too rough, especially if he sees he's not getting his way. He needs to be taught that is not polite to become aggressive during play time. Tango sleeps well in his crate but does become a little agitated if he's crated and left alone. But after a couple of minutes he calms right down. His favorite pastime is playing with the other dogs. He eats well, but with him it's not a high priority. Come and meet him at one of our adoption events. LAVA
Adopted: 05/31/06.

Tank

Adopted!

Tank is a 3-year-old, male, German Shepherd Dog, and an extremely sweet boy. He came to us from a family whose children were not very nice to him. He has shown nothing but love, affection and devotion to us. He is extremely attentive to your every move. If you are looking for a shadow, this boy is for you! He and our other dog tolerate each other, but don't play well together. Tank does not seem to understand how to play with another dog and can be rough. He will need a home without another dog, or with a dog that will show him what acceptable play is. Tank absolutely LOVES any ball. He will eat (literally!) any tennis ball you leave him with. He does not like to share his toys, but we are working on this. He is not aggressive with toys; he just likes to keep hold of them. He will take any toy our other dog is playing with. He can be a bit rough when taking toys or trying to sneak one away from you. For this reason he will not be good with young children, who may not be expecting him to take the toy. Tank does not mind you taking his food or bones from him. He understands we are his boss and listens very well. He knows sit, down, stay, shake and "no". Tank walks well on the leash, but definitely wants his pack together. Tank is house-trained. He is left alone in the house during the day and has had no problems. He still needs to lose about 15 pounds. He is good about eating his food and would be very good at eating your food too, if you aren't looking. He is learning not to beg and knows to stay away while you are eating. He will come and check things out while you are cooking or cleaning. With an "out" command he will lie on his bed and give his sad eyes to you. Tank is a wonderful dog and only wants a family who will love him. When you are not paying attention to him, he will just lay near you waiting for your love and attention. If you are looking for a laid back, gentle boy, Tank is for you! He is being fostered in Northern Virginia. MAVA
Adopted: 08/12/05.

Tara

Adopted!

Tara is a little butterball who never misses a meal, so we thought the whole plantation should be hers. One of Savanah's pups, she will be ready to go to her forever home in early June.

Tara #2

Adopted!

Hello, my name is Tara, and I will be 5 years old this July 30th. I am a petite GSD at only 55 pounds, but I have a lot of love to give. I am a very sweet dog who absolutely adores people including children but I have had a terrible life. Do you have time to hear my story? You see, I was only 9 months old when my original owner decided to give me up to the rescue because she could not longer handle having so many dogs and children. I was a young energetic dog being neglected. So this nice lady came and picked me up and then took me to a new home where I had a new furry brother and 3 acres to run in. This lady thought it would be the perfect home for me. But unfortunately, my new mommy and daddy didn't keep me for very long. Something about me playing too rough and mean with their 'expensive' GSD. I was then given to a family with young kids and a cat. I loved the kids and I adored the cat, I thought for sure this would be my final forever home, boy was I wrong!! After three years they took me to the shelter because now the kids are older and not paying as much attention to me, so their mom doesn't want the responsibility and took me to a horrible place called shelter. Ironically, the same lady who saved me when I was 9 months old came to my rescue once again. She was in shock however when she saw my poor tail, the bottom half was completely raw and I would not stop chewing on it because it was so badly infected that it hurt me very much. So this nice lady took me straight to the doctor. Unfortunately, because of my last family's negligence my tail is too far damaged to save, so the bottom half is being amputated. The nice people in the rescue think I will not have any problems finding a new home with half of my tail missing however because they say I'm a very pretty and sweet girl. I have been through so much that I want to be adopted by a family that will love me very much as I will love them and never return me to the rescue or dump me in another shelter. I do need to be an only dog. I would love a family that wants to play fetch with me, too. Is that you?
Adopted: 05/16/05.

Tasha

Adopted!

Tasha is a purebred (papered) black and tan plushy-coated Shepherd. She was born 12/5/00. Her previous owners gave her up because the other dog in the household was too rough with her, but she gets along just fine with all the dogs at her new fosterhome. She does want to be "alpha" though, and should probably go to a home with a subordinate dog, or be an "only" dog. I have taken to nicknaming her "Tasha the Enforcer" because she doesn't cut any of the other dogs slack. She's not nasty about it, but she has a way of making it known that she's in charge. Tasha passed the cat test, and hardly blinked at the four month old kitten who stood her ground when Tasha appeared. Tasha appears to already have been crate trained, and seems to think of her crate as a safe place. As with most rescued dogs, she could use some obedience training, but in general is not a difficult dog to be around. Tasha also chases her tail.

Tasha #2

Adopted!

Tasha can't help but bring a smile to our faces whenever we think of her name. She is quite a cutie whose picture doesn't do her any justice. This 3-year-old gal has a very sweet temperament with an easygoing nature and bonds closely to her humans. She does have a playful side to her, but only comes out when provoked into play. She is content to stretch across rugs and nap or follow her foster mom around the house. It seems Tasha's favorite habit is to make us dizzy. She gently spins in an endearing way when she greets you, needs to go out, or waits for her food. She walks well on leash, but she needs to get used to you and her new surroundings. At first, she will treat you like a Human Maypole by going around and around in circles, but after some time she feels more secure and walks ahead of you and then looks back at you from time to time. She does not pull or trip you. Tasha has the charming gait of a German Shepherd and is an inquisitive girl on her walks--her ears prick up over every little sound. She's currently in wide-eyed wonder at the world after having been in a barn for a while. She does jump up on people, but only on those she knows and she does it in a gentle way that won't knock anyone's grandma down. It's easily trainable and we're working on it. However she will knock a cat down and needs a home without one. This is a real gem of a girl that will enrichen anyone's home with her unconditional love & devotion. Hector and Tasha were found together and appear to be related. It would be nice if they could find a home together.

Tasha #3

Adopted!

Hi! My name is Tasha. I am a 2-year-old, spayed, black-and-tan, house-broken GSD. I love to play fetch and go for walks. I really love kids! My current home has 3 boys, ages 7/9/12. I love to play with them and even though they can be a little rough at times, I never nip or misbehave with them. In the mornings I like to go to the bus stop and see the boys off to school. Just grab my leash and I know what comes next! I am very well behaved and like to sit, shake hands and lie down. I haven't chewed on any of my owners "toys" in over a year! Let's just say I've learned my lesson fast! Besides, I prefer my own chew toys and yummy rawhide bones. My current family also has a cat. At first I wasn't too sure about him (and vise-versa) but now we get along without much commotion. Personally, I think that cat will miss me when I'm gone! I was crate trained before I met my current owners and still prefer to sleep in it, so my crate comes with me. Unfortunately my current family is moving away and they tell me it's not possible for me to go with them. Not enough yard and room for me to do all the things that I love! I am in search of a good home and promise to be the best family dog. Love, Tasha.

Taylor #2

Adopted!

Taylor is a cuddler. He is smart and adventurous. He has been well socialized. He has been around children, other large dogs, played outside and climbs stairs. During his 13 week life he has slept in a crate and pottied on paper so continuing that training should be a breeze. RTVA
Adopted: 01/24/08.

Taylor Lee

Adopted!

Hi, my name is Taylor Lee, but my friends all call me Tay Tay. As you can see, my ears are at the "Flying Nun" stage, which makes me impossibly cute. I am only around 5 months old and just having a ball being a puppy. My new folks will have to be patient with me while I learn to do something that they call "go potty" outside instead of inside. (But did you see how cute I am?) I love other dogs and even though I was a little afraid of the cat, I was as nice as could be to him! LJVA
Adopted: 09/01/07.

Taysi

Adopted!

This is Taysi - one of Faith's four puppies taken in by VGSR. Taysi is being treated for kennel cough, but otherwise is a sweet, happy, little chewing puppy. She will be in quarantine for a couple of weeks because two of her littermates are being treated for Parvo. We will keep you updated as we learn more about her. GSAVA
Adopted: 05/02/05.

Taz #2

Adopted!

I'm Taz. I'm 4 months old, 28 lbs, and a GSD/Belgian Malinois mix. Everybody says I'm a cool guy and so handsome with my Malinois mask. The ladies just love me because I'm such a big, gentle sweetie. I love everybody and everything. Except that funny-looking cat thing - I barked at him and he whacked me and it hurt, so I don't want to live with them any more. I'm taking care of my little sister Tess, and we're having fun now and romping around the house and yard. I've got lots of bones to chew on and toys to play with and I like that stuff. I'm house-trained and only go in the crate at night, but I'd like to be sleeping beside somebody's bed. I'd really like a home with a big, fenced yard to romp in and some playmates. Tess and I are in Northern Virginia.

Taz #3

Adopted!

We would like to thank everyone who has so graciously donated toward helping us help sweet Taz. Unfortunately, he has had a setback in his recovery. About six weeks after the hip replacement on his left hip, the implant popped out of position and he had to have a second surgery in order to put the implant back in place. This happened just after Taz had started to use his new hip. This poor guy seems to have the worst luck! This second surgery, although not quite as expensive as the first one, was an unexpected shock to VGSR's checking account. We have also been boarding him in an animal hospital so that we don't take any chance of him re-injuring the implant. He is now recuperating from the second surgery to his left hip. After the implant is good and solid, we need to replace his right hip, which is actually in worse shape than the left one was prior to surgery. Even though Taz has really been through the wringer, he is still our happy, tail waggin', face lickin' lover boy. We would so appreciate your continued support to help get us through his upcoming surgery. Most rescues would have euthanized him, but if you met him, you would know why we have made every effort to make him whole. He is truly a special dog that really, really, deserved this chance. Your donations are tax deductible and we are very happy to receive donations through Paypal. Taz asked me to tell you how much he appreciates your help! SLVA
Adopted: 12/01/06.

Tazzie

Adopted!

Tazzie will steal your heart. She is about 3 1/2 years old and a bundle of energy. She was returned by her family because she jumps the fence to go meet other dogs. Therefore, a potential adopter would need to have at least a 6 foot fence or take her out strictly on leash. Tazzie is a love bug and wants lots of attention. She needs a famliy that will reciprocate this attention. She needs a release for her energy...lots of walks and lots of play. Tazzie also needs someone who will take the time to teach her some basic obedience training. She does well with cats and kids. Despite getting along with cats, she does have a high small prey drive when it comes to squirrels or other small animals. She will make a great, loyal friend to whoever welcomes her into their home.
Adopted: 12/30/06.

Teddy

Adopted!

At over 100 lbs., I am a whole lotta love. I like most other dogs, except the other boy here who is trying to beat me up for stealing his girl. I like cats o.k., but will chase them if they run. I am looking for a new home where I can get away from the bully where I am now. I think kids are the greatest! Won't you let me be your Teddy Bear? GSVA
Adopted: 06/26/06.

TeeFee

Adopted!

Meet TeeFee (Cajun for "little one"), a small 2-year-old Shepherd/Akita mix who is delightful inside and out. She's spayed, completely house-trained, crate-trained, and weighs only 60 lbs. TeeFee gets along really well with other dogs, even though she can be a little pushy when she really wants to play. She's very smart, and her world revolves around human affection, so she'll be quick to train and a fantastic addition to your family. She's great with kids. To arrange a meeting, contact claire@gooddogz.org. LCVA
Adopted: 12/22/05.

Tess

Adopted!

Tess is 9-10 months old. She has been spayed and is up to date with all vaccinations & heartworm medications. She loves other dogs and cats. She also loves children of any age. She is very gentle and loving and will make someone a great companion.

< -- (click on this picture to view larger images)

Tess #2

Adopted!

Tess #2 is a 10 month old female. She is fully housebroken and can remain loose in my house without any accidents or destructive behavior, although she is crate trained if necessary. Tess loves to play and is in need of some basic obedience. She settles down wonderfully in the house but as soon as you are willing and able, she's ready to go and burn off some of her puppy energy. She actually does better off leash than on, and needs to learn how to not pull. Tess is learning how to play with other dogs, she's interested and excited but still not always sure how to interact. She likes to be #1 but she has settled in quite nicely with my not very dominant 3 year old male GSD and has learned to share love, attention, and treats. Tess will make somebody an incredible companion.

Tess #3

Adopted!

I'm Tess. I'm 4 months old, 18 lbs. and a GSD/Belgian Malinois mix. Everybody says how sweet and pretty I am, just like a little stuffed toy. My big brother Taz takes care of me because I'm shy and a little scared. It's nice and quiet in my new home. I'm liking it and having fun. There's a big yard, so Taz and I romp and play around now that I'm feeling better. I like those chew bones and toys and I have my crate when I want to sleep. And if Taz doesn't like that cat thing, then I don't either. And if Taz has a yard and playmates, I want a yard and playmates, too. I'm already house-trained, and I'll be ready to meet everyone soon. Taz and I are in Northern Virginia.

Tessa #2

Adopted!

Tessa is very new to the rescue. What we know about her right now is that she is a typical puppy who wants to play and chew. While she is in foster care we will be learning more about her to update the web. Please check back often for updates. TDVA

Tessa #3

Adopted!

Hi!, I'm Tessa. I was born in the US, but my litter was bred in Germany. My father, VA2 Timo vom Berrekasten, was the #2 male in the world 2000 and 2001. I was the #7 female in the US at the USA Sieger Show. Shortly thereafter, I was sent to Germany for my training where I was titled, breed surveyed, and rated excellent. I have the SV pink paper addition to my AKC pedigree as my parents met the strict breeding requirements of the German SV system as do I. I became the lifelong partner for General O'Mara's daughter and served that position faithfully until her passing a few months ago. The family tried to keep me but their lifestyle would not permit my addition to their household. I have been raised in a household around children, consider myself good with other animals. (I bark at horses, but, do not bother the cats, and the chicken). Very well-mannered and looking for a lifelong home where we can enjoy activities together. I'm happy in the house, outside in the yard, am crate-trained and can be left alone for 8 to 10 hours. I'm obedience-trained both on and off leash, and should perform well for you once you learn my language as I'm trained in German.
Adopted: 07/16/07.

Theo

Adopted!

Hi guys, my name is Theo, and thus far, my life has been a wild ride! I am a 1 1/2 year old soon-to-be neutered male, and while I'm at the vet's I'm going to get up to date on my shots as well. I can't say I'm too pleased about any of this, but if it gets me a good home, I'll do anything! My first owner had me chained out in the backyard 24/7. Then this nice young couple came to get me, but their landlord wouldn't let them keep me, so here I am with rescue. I'm starving for attention so, I admit, I do get all wiggly and jumpy at times, but then I calm down nicely once you pet me several times. I am good with other dogs and children, but I have no idea about those things called cats. I would love to go to obedience class and I have a feeling I'd be super at agility or flyball too. I am currently in foster care in the central Shenandoah Valley. Did I mention I'm a real lovebug?"

Thomasina

Adopted!

Thomasina is one sweet girl. Not a day goes by when she doesn’t make me laugh out loud at her antics. She has an active and playful nature and loves to chase her ball, bringing it back with her tail wagging. She also dances through the house with her rope toy, teasing her foster brother until he’ll play tug with her. She’s learning several commands including sit, down, shake, and no, and is working on her leash manners. She is more crate-tolerant that crate-trained. A regular Houdini, if she can escape, she will. I think she’d prefer being in a forever home with a playmate, rather than being an only dog. She’s currently being treated for a skin condition, and will soon be fit and beautiful. EJVA

Thor

Adopted!

Hi! My name is Thor, and I'm a two-year-old male (neutered) German Shepherd. My owner was moving, so I got turned in to a shelter. Because my owner at least took the time to write some information down about me, my foster mom already knows how good I am with other dogs, and I like children too. I have chased cats in the past, but they were outside. I might be trained to get along with indoor cats, and soon my mom will know more. As you can see, I'm a very handsome boy. You should also know that I am very friendly towards everyone I meet and I'm house-trained and crate-trained, too. I look forward to meeting you soon, and will be at upcoming adoption events where you can meet me!

Thor #2

Adopted!

Thor is about 1 year old. He's a neutered male, current on shots, and is heartworm negative. Thor is still very puppy-like, but he's full grown, although he will put on some more weight as he fills out in the next year. Thor gets along with other dogs and he's great with people too. Thor has taken to crate training very well in just a few days. I can't vouch for his house-training, but in the shelter and his prior foster home, he always held it until it got outside, so that is a good indication. He has not had much obedience training, however, and he will need someone who is willing to take that on. He has a great disposition, is smart and eager to please; he just needs someone to show him the way. You can contact Thor's foster home at vadogrescue@aol.com if you have any questions. JBVA

Thunder #2

Adopted!

-

Thunder is a beautiful dark GSD of 16 months. He is full of play and energy plus likes to herd and "nip" so an experienced GSD home is a must. Thunder is housebroken, crate trained, sits, walks well on a leash and loves to run, play with toys along with car rides. He likes most other dogs but he does loves to be the center of attention. Currently he is working with a wonderful T-Touch trainer, and also obedience. His family gave him up because he would nip and herd. Thunder needs an understanding home along with guidance and he will grow to be a fabulous family member. He is living in Hampton Roads / Tidewater, Virginia.

Tiaco

Adopted!

Tiaco is a beautiful, pure-bred GSD female, 4 years old. I am told her name means happiness in Japanese, and happy she is. Her owners gave he up when they moved into a small condo. She would like a family to play with and follow from room to room. A Velcro girl is what she is. Tiaco knows many commands like sit, stay, down, place, house and the potty command. She plays fetch and will catch a ball in the air with great pride and enthusiasm. She has good house manners and lots of kisses to give. Tiaco does not like the other female dogs in her foster home, so she must go to a home without alpha competition. How about bringing some a little happiness into your home. She is living in Virginia Beach.

Tiffany

Adopted!

Tiffany is a our special girl. She was rescued from the shelter where she was picked up as a stray. Tiffany was very sick, had some surgery and has never felt better. A gorgeous dark sable German Shepherd, Tiffany has some athletic abilities that would let her win a gold medal. She is a real athlete, at 1.5 years old and weighing in at 65 pounds. Sweet Tiffany is good with all other dogs, excellent with children, but should be in a cat-free home. She must eat from a raised surface due to an enlarged esophagus. Miss Tiffany is the best behaved, most attentive dog we have ever fostered. She is house-, crate- and leash-trained, although she does not require crating. Dear Tiffany deserves a chance in a permanent home where she can be challenged and busy, as she is so smart. She is being fostered in Northern Virginia. CBVA
Adopted: 08/03/04.

Tiffany #4

Adopted!

Hi. My name is Tiffany. I am a 4-month-old, black-and-red German Shepherd. My foster mom says I am really just the sweetest thing. She really likes it when I curl up on her lap and then turn over for belly rubs and just lie there in her lap. She also thinks its funny that I enjoy a nice cool shower at times. I love to play. I like playing with my foster brother GSDs, and I love licking my foster humans!!! I chew only a little and I respond very well when I am told no. I am all puppy and I still bounce around a lot which makes me very happy!!!! Tiffany has a very strong GSD personality and will need an experienced GSD forever home. DGVA

Tigger

Adopted!

Tigger's a very calm boy, content to stay with you in whatever room you are in, and either sit near you or lie down somewhere in the room. He likes to keep you in his sight! He frequently will come over to us and put his head on our leg so we will pet him! Like I said, he is a LOVE BUG!! Very calm and well-behaved indoors and out. He's also very well-behaved in his crate and will just walk right in and sit down with no problems. We crate him only when we are leaving and other than that he has free roam of the house and has not had a single house-training accident yet. Despite his "stocky" appearance and couch potato demeanor inside, Tigger LOVES to go for walks and is well-behaved on a leash. He will walk and walk until WE get tired and go home! He could stand to lose a few pounds, so frequent walks would be a plus! In addition to loving his walks, he LOVES car rides and does very well in the car!! Overall, Tigger is a very sweet boy, once he is comfortable with you. He is a little on the shy side, but once he opens up to you, he is wonderful. He would make an excellent "first dog" for someone since he is so well-behaved. One odd thing I've noticed is that he will not play with any dog toys, whether that's a stuffed kong, squeaky toys, tennis balls, or other chew toys that we have. I don't think he was ever given a toy before, poor guy! So we're working with him on that! But really, he's most content just being a couch potato! Please visit him at adoption days. TDVA

Tika

Adopted!

Tika is a gorgeous black and sable German Shepherd Dog. She is around 2 years old. Tika is the sweetest dog ever and is extremely smart. Tika was found in the streets but she must have belonged to somebody as she seems to know sit, down and stay, and is very obedient. I was able to brush her for almost 20 minutes, and she just stood there still for me. Tika tested positive for heartworm, so she is being treated and will be a normal dog again soon. Tika is currently crated for long hours because of her condition, but she is so good that she does not complain. Tika is fine with the other five dogs in her foster home including a little Yorkie. She is an awesome dog and who ever ends up with this beauty will be very lucky. Tika is being fostered in Maryland. VCMD

Timber

Adopted!

Timber is a beautiful white, black and silver GSD, about 16 months old. He is quite the happy boy with lots of energy and curiosity. Timber seems to like female GSD's the best, but is doing a lot of flirting with our female lab these days. Toys, balls, and chew bones are great fun as he dances around with them. He also struts around the yard with his head high and has a fantastic gait. Timber is learning his house manners including house-training and crates. He is making daily progress with both. Timber will be receiving treatment for heartworm the beginning of January, so his new family must be willing to limit his activities for a month or so as he recuperates. Have room in your heart and home for this gorgeous, sweet boy? He is living in Virginia Beach.

Tim

Adopted!

OK - here's Timmy - now we just need a Lassie! Timmy, who is around 2 years old, is a exceptionally nice young male German Shepherd. His one ear doesn't quite match the other, but his friendly demeanor more than makes up for his less than perfect set of ears! He gets along great with other dogs too. DBMD

Adopted!

If you are looking at Timmy and thinking he doesn't really look like a German shepherd, you're right. Timmy, a handsome, 2.5-year-old Belgian Malinois was originally adopted as a puppy, but was recently surrendered by his previous adopter when she couldn't care for him anymore. Timmy was in a home with an alpha female whose tendency was to bully, and as soon as he was separated from her he immediately started to come out of his shell. He would be better placed in a home without an alpha or one where the alpha would not bully him. Timmy was recently tested with small dogs (a Maltese and a Pomeranian) and did great - showing he can be quite a gentleman! He has a lot of energy so exercise and training are a must. Timmy is learning that toys and food are not resources that need to be guarded from other dogs, and his sharing skills are developing. Timmy does enjoy the thrill of the chase when a cat runs from him, so he'd be better off in a home with no cats or cats that stand their ground. Also, he has not been around small children, but considering he can be startled from time-to-time he will only go into a home with children over 12-years-old and with previous GSD/Malinois experience. Timmy is a special boy and is ready to start his new life with you today. E-mail love.gsds@adelphia.net if you have any questions about this loveable guy. Timmy is being fostered in the Shenandoah Valley. HAVA
Adopted: 03/26/05.

Tina

Adopted!

Tina is 2 years old and weighs around 60 pounds, but is still very skinny and needs to put at least 5 or 10 more pounds. She is a stunning black and red with gorgeous hair. Tina is a very affectionate dog and likes to be near you. Tina needs to go to a home with either no other dogs or a submissive dog as she is very dominant and does not back down from the alpha dog. Tina is house- and crate-trained. I can tell she has lived outside in the past and not very well socialized thus is a little nervous around new things like stairs but is slowly coming around. Tina has no obedience so will need to attend obedience classes with her new owner(s), this will also help her gain some confidence. Tina will make a wonderful pet for someone who will giver her the attention and love she has never had and so much desires. VCMD

Tip

Adopted!

So who is looking for a sweet, mellow guy that likes to snuggle on the couch? Tip is 5 years old and a complete gentleman. This is pretty remarkable considering he had spent most of his life in an outside pen. He has adjusted completely to being a "house" dog, and boy, does he enjoy it. He is house-trained, polite, likes to cuddle and was totally cool with the resident cat. He is a little submissive to other dogs and does not have an aggressive bone in his body. Tip also rides well in a car and is content to curl up in the crate everyone once in a while. The best thing about him is how VERY much he appreciates any attention that you show him. He knows how rough life can be, so he is extra appreciative of even the smallest kindness. I wish my OWN dogs were this humble. Tip is being fostered in Northern VA. SLVA
Adopted: 12/11/06.

Tippy

Adopted!

Meet Tippy! We think that Tip sounds just a bit more dignified for such a handsome dog! Tippy is very friendly to all he meets. He is fine with dogs, but not cats. Tip is house-trained, crate-trained, and rides well in a car. He does tend to pull on the leash when walking, so he would benefit from some training. He is young male around two years old and probably weighs around 80 lbs. Tip will be getting neutered before he can be adopted. GSVA
Adopted: 10/05/04.

Titus

Adopted!

Titus is a gentle, one-year-old, male German Shepherd. He is quite shy, but very affectionate and endearing to any real dog lover. He is intelligent, playful, very eager to listen to your gentle corrections, and cuddly. He is in need of a lot of quiet reassurance, and nurturing attention. He is not a leader and not the least bit aggressive. He likes to try to sit in your lap and even gives me kisses when I tip his nails. He has not been cat tested yet, but he gets along with other dogs as he has no need to dominate. He greatly prefers women to men, and will not come up to someone whom he senses is not a true dog lover. He is basically house-trained but does not ask to go out yet. He does not like crates, probably because he is quite tall and long and likes to stretch out when he lies down. He was found as a stray and is on the thin side. He will be steadily gaining muscle and weight. He likes to leap for joy when praised for being house-trained, and runs when on walks, but all things considered, he is not an outdoor dog. He has not been taught not to chew, yet he must be watched all the time. If he is to be in a house with children, they must be taught to be extremely gentle with him. He will also do well in a family.
Adopted: 01/12/08.

Toby

Adopted!

Hi, I am so cute that everyone that sees me goes ga-ga over me (and I'm only 6 months old) ...but I don't mind, I have tail wags, licks and smiles for everyone except some men scare me sometimes. Don't tell my foster mom but I am madly in love with Carolena the test kid. I follow her and my foster sisters everywhere they go. I get along with all kinds of dogs, but I haven't met a cat yet. I do like to jump up on humans so I need to be with older kids (9+). I think I must be about 99% house-trained because my foster mom tells me I'm a good boy when we go outside. My foster mom say's not to forget I am 110% puppy and I chew on anything I can get in my mouth, but if you want a face wash and tail wagger, then I'm your boy. GSVA

Tomi

This is Tomi - one of Faith's four puppies taken in by VGSR. Tomi is being treated for Parvo and possibly pneumonia. Tomi is in ICU and was not expected to live through the night, but she is still with us and fighting for her life. ICU expenses are running $800-$1,000 a day. VGSR needs your help with these overwhelming expenses. Please sponsor little Tomi in her fight for life, and please keep her in your prayers. We will keep you updated as we learn more about her. Travis

Adopted!

Travis is a friendly, 1 1/2 year old black and tan pure-bred, male German Shepherd. He should weigh around 75 pounds. Travis is calm and quiet for a young dog. He would be a great buddy for someone considering a German Shepherd for the first time. He does like to "sing" when he plays with his squeaker. Travis loves to play chase and wrestle gently with the other dogs and, we suspect, would do well with cats. He would be happy to go on gentle walks or just snuggle in your lap. Travis can be a little shy. He walks very nicely on a leash and is learning some basic commands. Travis wants to be your special boy.

Trinity

Adopted!

Trinity is a fantastic 3-year-old female German Shepherd. Be assured that if you adopt Trinity, heads will turn! She is absolutely stunning, and large for a female. As you can see from her picture, she is almost blonde in color (with some darker shaded area where her "saddle" is) with a black mask. She is calm and quiet in the house, although she's shy - I think she is overwhelmed by the recent events in her life - i.e., being in a shelter, at the vet, and now in a foster home. She has already met one of the resident cats without incident. We are still evaluating Trinity, but I would guess that she is probably house-trained (successfully working on the crate training now). Trinity is OK with other dogs, although she prefers not to play, but will "mingle" fine with other dogs. She's be a good sister to another calm dog, or might enjoy being an "only child". Trinity positively enjoys riding in the car, and is content to quietly lie down in the back seat. Trinity is a bit of an escape artist, and must be monitored very closely after she is adopted. A six-foot stockade fence, or exclusive leash walking is recommended. In the moments after "escaping" from her foster mom's backyard, she was found in the driveway, eagerly trying to get into the SUV, and came when called. Trinity is current on vaccinations, and will be spayed soon. Trinity will attend all adoption events until she is placed, and she looks forward to meeting you at one. Trinity is being fostered near Frederick, Maryland.

Trinity #2

Adopted!

Hi, my name is Trinity, and I am a GSD/Husky mix that is around 5-6 months old. I have the softest fur that you have ever felt, and I am just as affectionate and full of kisses as could be! I am very friendly, outgoing, and I get along terrific with other dogs, kids, and adults. I live with a couple of cats, but when I try to get them to play they just get all hissed off at me! I walk nicely on a leash and am crate-trained. Being that I am still a puppy, be prepared to keep on eye on me to keep me from chewing stuff up that I shouldn't oughta chew! Right now I am living in Northern Virginia. You better call about me real quick because someone as cute as me won't be available for long! SLVA
Adopted: 08/09/04.

Trinity #3

Adopted!

Greetings from here in the Shenandoah Valley! My name is Trinity, and this is currently my home, even though it seems I've been all over Virginia lately. I was dumped in SW Virginia and was cared for by a very nice lady in Roanoke who then got in touch with VGSR. Voila, now I'm being looked after properly and loving every minute of it. I am about 2 years old, house-trained, up-to-date on all my shots, already spayed, and have had a good month of training already. I'm really smart and am learning everything quickly - especially how to walk well on a lead. I am playful, affectionate and best of all I haven't shown one iota of aggressiveness even to the cats that were in my foster home. I didn't snuggle up to them per se, but I just kind of ignored them. I would be wonderful with children over 6 (I'm just too big for the wee ones!) If you'd like a very nice beautiful girl who has tons of potential, please consider me. I definitely won't let you down. Rescue Tag #984, PSMVA

Trinity #4

Adopted!

Trinity or Trina as we've been calling her is a VERY active 8-month-old, spayed, white female. She is current on her vaccines and is micro-chipped. She is getting along great with everyone in her foster home, from adults to kids to the four legged furry kind. Her most FAVORITE thing to do is run around the yard chasing after her toys. She constantly has to have a toy or ball in her mouth. Trinity will need a family that is as active as she and which loves hiking or taking long walks so she can explore the world. Her family will also need to be able to channel all her drive and energy into more positive things, like obedience, agility or flyball (at which I think she will be awesome!!). Therefore, if Trinity sounds like the dog for you please come out and meet her. FLMD

Tristan #2

Adopted!

Hey, ya'll, I'm Tristan. I love to play with balls, toys, other dogs, people, and well, about everything! I love to go for walks and runs, and play at the park. I'm a very happy-go-lucky dog, and love to go-go-go. I'm still learning what's mine and what I'm allowed to chew on. I'm also still learning basic obedience but I'm great on a leash and I do know sit and down. I'm looking for a forever family that can help me burn my energy and help me learn to be a well-mannered dog. If you think you could be that family for me, please come meet me at a Northern Virginia adoption event. HEVA

Troy

Adopted!

Troy weighs in about 85 lbs., 26" at shoulder. He is a sterling example of the classic working German Shepherd Dog. He has a strong ball drive, an excellent work ethic, great physicality, high energy and an intelligent mind. He's too modest to mention being easy on the eyes, handsome in traditional black-and-tan. Troy will be an excellent companion for someone who is looking for the best friend of a lifetime. He has the potential to be a strong contender to train for obedience. He is people- and dog-friendly, but couples his willingness to please with a way of his own. He is not above manipulation or bullying to get his way, whether it is to throw that ball for him one more time or let him take that empty water bottle for his toy. Cats are not his friend. Troy is house-trained, has good house manners and understands basic commands of sit, down and come. Currently he is working on playing nicely with his four brothers and sisters (4 legged), which is going well except when he wants to be the "playboy" to the girls. He would be best in a home that understands the German Shepherd as a working dog. He wants to be the center of affection and promises in return to be extremely loyal, try diligently to learn his lessons and provide countless hours of fun. Troy is being fostered in Virginia Beach. DBTVA
Adopted: 06/28/04.

Troy #2

Adopted!

Troy is a beautiful young male GSD who's had a tough time in his life, so he needs LOTS of love and attention. He was adopted out over a year ago but was left alone inside too long every day and developed a habit of chasing and biting his tail, so he was returned to us recently. In the past month, Troy's proven that he'd much rather play ball, go for walks or even just sit outside in the yard rather than chase his silly ol' tail. Troy gives kisses and loves to be scratched and doesn't get into anything he's not supposed to. Troy is a strong boy who can be stubborn sometimes, so he'll need an assertive, German Shepherd-experienced owner who is home most of the time so he doesn't get bored or lonely. At first, he'll try to dominate any dog but once he gets to know them he's happy to have someone to run around with. Troy is great with kids and his big alert bark would make anyone feel safe with him in their home! KBVA
Adopted: 08/23/05.

Tucker

Adopted!

Tucker is a very handsome, jet black GSD with a striking appearance and a charming, friendly personality. He is about 1 to 1 1/2 years old, rides well in the car, good with cats, OK with other dogs and learning to be housebroken. He also likes to put his head in your lap to snuggle. Tucker is a calm fellow who will make a great addition to someone's home.

Tucker #2

Adopted!

Tucker's story turned into a happy one when he was rescued by VGSR from the shelter on his final day. At approximately one year old, Tucker's short life has been fraught with difficulties. To the best of our knowledge, Tucker had spent most of his life as a stray with no home to call his own. Shortly after coming to VGSR, he was diagnosed with heartworm. A rare reaction to his heartworm treatment resulted in reduced peripheral vision. Tucker is scheduled for his final heartworm recheck at the end of November, after which he'll be neutered and ready for adoption. At approximately 58 lbs, Li'l Tuck is a bit on the small side for a GSD, but he packs a punch with an abundance of puppy energy! Tucker's coat is a very silky solid black. One ear is slightly crooked which gives him a jaunty look. He's very alert, adores being the center of attention, and loves to romp and play with his foster sister and brother, even when they don't! He is very submissive without an aggressive bone in his body, but he is still learning his manners with other dogs in that he finds it difficult to stop nipping at their tails to instigate play. And although he has never been trained, he is not destructive in the house. He is very affectionate, will run up to you and see for a good ear scratchin...in between bouts of play, of course! Tucker would do best in an environment with another young dog or with someone who is around for much of the day since he can get very lonely. Won't you open your heart this holiday season and give Tucker his forever home? You will be rewarded with an energetic companion to share life's adventures. KBVA

Tuffy

Adopted!

My name is Tuffy and I am a handsome GSD/Husky mix. I am sweet and social. I have a lot of energy but I am good when left alone: I love to lie quietly next to my humans until someone calls me for more play. I am good with kids, other dogs, small animals and actually anyone who likes me and likes to pet me. I am soft and gentle and love to play. I definitely need obedience training. I know heel and down but will not obey when you are not assertive. Ah well, I guess I am in my crazy teens. I do not pull too hard on the leash but if you train me well, I will be a very loyal disciplined dog. If you have a job for me, like guarding the house, I’d love to! And if it is not too much to ask, I like a play companion in my new home to hang out with. I love to be around all the other dogs in my foster home and get along with each one of them. If you have a back yard, that would be great too because I like to run to keep my muscles in good shape. Foster mom thinks that I am great at socializing, so dog parks are definitely my thing. Do you think your family is a good match with me? Please be my human for life then and contact my foster mom Karen at gsdmom78@gmail.com.

Turbo

Adopted!

Turbo is a very striking, 1-2 year old male German Shepherd. He is a total lap dog - if you sit on the floor, he will climb into your lap, roll over to have his belly rubbed and gaze up at you! He absolutely loves people (and children)! He loves to play with other dogs, and while he does wrestle a bit rough, he has shown little interest in his foster sister, a 5 lb., 12-week-old puppy. He is great in the house and is a typical velcro GSD. He loves to be right where you are and is content to lay quietly at your feet. While he has wonderful house manners, he has plenty of energy too! He loves to go for walks, go jogging, etc. Turbo would do best in a family with an active lifestyle. He rides great in the car and wants to be an intregral part of his new family! He will make an excellent addition to one lucky family!

Turner #2

Adopted!

Turner is not only stunning, but a real love bug to boot and a pretty laid back boy. He loves to have his head in your lap and he has this great little thing that he does with his feet – he dances! He loves to play with his foster brother and sisters, but is NOT good with cats. He has excellent leash manners and is a real gentleman in the car just lies down and goes to sleep dreaming about you taking him to the dog park or for a walk in the woods, anywhere where he can be with you. Please stop by an adoption event soon and meet this great guy and give him a better life than the one he used to have. You won’t regret it! AAVA

Tye

Adopted!

Tye is a large, 2-1/2-year-old, sable, GSD just full of southern charm, Virginia Beach style. He loves to cuddle with his foster mom and plays all day with his three doggie foster friends (four-legged). Tye is house-trained, mannerly, knows basic obedience, and always has an affectionate nudge. According to his foster mom, he has spoiled her and fit right in the family immediately. Tye also loves to run and play with children. Ages 4 and up would keep this fellow very happy. Are you looking for a GREAT family dog? DBTVA

Tyler

Adopted!

Tyler is a very gentle long haired black-and-tan, male, GSD between 2 and 3 years of age. He was picked up as a stray and spent about three weeks in a shelter before coming to VGSR. Given his unsettled past, Tyler is going through an adjustment period and is learning to trust people. He is very affectionate with his foster mom and enjoys the company of his canine foster sister. Tyler is timid, submissive and insecure and will do best in a patient and uncomplicated home where he feels safe. We expect that with patience and love, he will continue to become more comfortable with his family environment and really begin to shine. Though not crate-trained, Tyler chooses to relax in the safety of a crate which is always available to him, with the door open. He is very smart and is learning rules and commands (with some challenges along the way). He is great on a leash and enjoys taking long walks with his foster family. He loves to ride in the car. Tyler is learning to play with his canine sister and the various dog toys available to him. While his coat is improving, it still shows signs of previous stress but with well balanced nutrition, it will continue to improve and he will be a beautiful boy. In spite of all the difficulties Tyler encountered before coming to VGSR, he is adjusting exceptionally well. His disposition is wonderful and he is very loving and affectionate with his foster mom. Tyler is so sweet and, with encouragement, will make a great companion. He is being fostered in Northern Virginia. KHVA

Adopted!

Tyra is a sweet, 9-month-old black & tan female German Shepherd who has a lot of puppy energy to burn. She is new to the rescue so we are just learning about her. So far she seems okay with everyone, and is doing well with the kids and dogs in her foster home. Tyra is going to be a big girl when she's done growing - so she would do best in a home with no small children. She will need a family who is going to be dedicated in taking her to obedience classes and giving her the socialization and exercise a GSD needs. Tyra was left at the shelter in the middle of the night by her family.

Tyson #2

Adopted!

Tall, dark, handsome, strong and silent (mostly) - that’s how my foster parents describe me. They also say that I am the sweetest boy and well-behaved, too! I love to meet and greet people and give kisses to the ladies. Living inside, in a home, is pretty new to me. I was in a bad situation before but life is good now. My foster family is teaching me things - like what treats/biscuits and toys are all about. They are also teaching me words like “come, Tyson” or “sit, Tyson.” They expect me to learn, too. My canine foster sister knows all about these things but no one ever tried to teach me anything before. I am looking for a forever home that will continue to work with me and give me lots of love. I am a BIG boy so my forever family shouldn’t have any little children who I could inadvertently knock down. Come meet me at an adoption day soon. KHVA

Adopted!

Udo is a very masculine, handsome, pure-bred male GSD. He is SO housebroken that if you don't notice him standing by the door, he will start pounding it to make sure that you do! He is very friendly with both people and dogs. Udo is quite free with the kisses and will give you a pretty good face washing if presented with the opportunity! He sniffed my cat and did not try to eat him, but was very interesting in looking for Kiss (the cat) after he disappeared. Udo is very well-mannered in both the house and the car. His tests indicate that he has hypo-thyroidism and has some allergies too. We have just started him on the thyroid medication which fortunately is very inexpensive. SLVA

Utah

Adopted!

Utah is a quiet and affectionate, black-and-tan, 95 pound, gentle giant that gets along nicely with other dogs, cats, and kids older than 8 in his foster home. He loves playing with his foster brothers and sisters, but really does not like the household cat. Utah enjoys running about with a soccer, basketball, or stuffed animal firmly clamped in his huge but gentle jaws, wanting to play, and he really enjoys long gentle head massages. On the lead he pulls a bit but is completely manageable and he loves long walks. Though he is not well trained to specific commands he is house-trained, heeds warnings, and doesn't run away or wander off when off lead, as he prefers to stay near and follow you everywhere. Utah will make a great addition to a family that will take time to teach him the rules. He does want to please. Utah (he prefers being called Buddy) needs someone to get him wagging his tail again. Perhaps he's the guy for you. Utah is being fostered in Northern Virginia. CPVA

Valentino

Adopted!

Valentino ("Tino" for short) comes to us from the Washington Humane Society. He is a 1-year-old Shepherd/Akita mix. He is definitely appropriately named. He is an enthusiastic lover boy with lots of kisses and tail wags to give. This boy is a diamond in the "ruff". He is a little hesitant when meeting new people (especially men), but warms up quickly. After that he will follow you everywhere, afraid to miss any of the action. He is good with other dogs, kids and only mildly interested in cats. He obeys (most of the time) basic commands--come, sit, lie down, shake hands. He is an extremely fast runner and can turn on a dime. With all this speed and intelligence, he would probably do well in agility training. Now for the "ruff" part. When he first arrived at our house, he was not completely house-trained. He is paper-trained. We have had him on a walk schedule and he is starting to get the hang of going outside. Because he is still a puppy, he will chew pretty much anything if left alone or unsupervised. (The TV remote was oh so delish', the couch cushion was extremely tender, the hand lotion bottle was yucky!) I now put him in the crate when I leave, which he absolutely hates. He is also very food aggressive toward other dogs and humans. Valentino would probably do best in a house where someone is home part of the day to continue his puppy training, and has another dog or kids to run off some of his high energy. For more info, e-mail his foster mom at SUESHANK@aol.com. SSuVA

Valkyrie

Adopted!

Valkyrie is a kind and gentle girl. She is an AKC-registered Shepherd who sadly had to part with her family of 9 years because they were moving. Valkyrie has beautiful brown eyes. Valkyrie is extremely well trained and has wonderful house manners. She is house-trained and crate-trained, and she responds well to basic commands. Valkyrie absolutely loves car rides as long as she can sniff out the window to catch all the good scents passing by. Valkyrie also loves hikes in the woods and neighborhood walks and has very good leash manners. Don't let Valkyrie's age dissuade you - she is healthy and has many years and much devotion left to give. Valkyrie would be a wonderful first dog for a family because she is so easy to have around, or a loyal companion for a family's current dog. You can e-mail Susan at run4stacatto@yahoo.com for more information about Valkyrie. FSMD

Van Gogh

Adopted!

Van Gogh is the best dog in the whole world. He is almost 8 years old and house-trained of course. He was raised with cats and thinks he is one. I have watched infants pull themselves across him using his ears and fur with nary a twitch from him. He is wonderfully protective of his children and tries to "herd" them at the playground. Van Gogh loves other animals and also gets along well with other large dogs. He is good-mannered, obeys, and loves to play. He is currently staying in Springfield VA.

This beautiful girl is named Vega. She was dropped at the shelter recently when her mom died suddenly. Vega is 1.5 years old and weighs 75 pounds, a classic black-and-tan German Shepherd. Vega walks well on a leash and knows sit, shake & down. She plays well with other large dogs and is reported to be good with children. She is NOT, however good with cats. Vega is a well mannered, sweetheart of a dog. She would be a great addition to most families. Vega is being fostered in Northern Virginia.

Vegas

Adopted!

Vegas is 14 months old, 60 lb. all black German Shepherd with a happy girl personality. Her owners do not have the time to spend with this beautiful girl and have decided to give her up to a home that can play and care for her. I was greeted with her happy tail, no bark full of kisses and very friendly personality. Vegas is eager to be your best friend and do what ever you want. Belly rubs were quite good and so was playing ball. She has been living outside along with a bunny, which she did not bother, with so small animals, dog, cats and children should be fine. She will need basic obedience training but seems quite bright! Can you help Vegas "win" her forever family? She's currently located in Virginia Beach.

Veteran is a laid-back kind of German Shepherd Dog. He's 4 years old, black and tan, and 75 pounds. Veteran has passed the "cat test" successfully and enjoys the company of other dogs. Veteran is a sweetheart that everyone falls in love with at first sight. He is looking a chance to go for leash walks, rides in a car and stretch out at your feet. You must meet him soon. You, too, will fall in love with him.

Victor

Adopted!

Victor is a cute, five month old, mostly shepherd with an all black body and sable feet. He weighs 40 pounds and was recently rescued from a shelter. He seems to already have some training. Victor rides well in the car, is house trained and knows some basic commands. He is very well-behaved and gets along well with other dogs. Victor is happy to be in his new foster home and is patiently waiting for his permanent home. Victor is a nice, young gentleman, and quite proper for such a young fella.
