VOLUNTEERS WANTED!

Open Volunteer Positions

Without our wonderful volunteers, many of the dogs saved by VGSR would have died. You can help us make a difference in a German Shepherd's life by joining the VGSR volunteer team. All of our volunteers are cherished - whether they work directly with our dogs or behind the scenes. They all are key in saving a dog's life. Here are some ways that you can help to improve a dog's life:

Adoption Days

Join us at adoption events where we show our available foster dogs. We need assistance at every event in table set up and tear-down; transporting dogs to/from these events; holding dogs; and talking with the public about our rescue, our dogs and our great breed.

Transporting Dogs

Help to transport our foster dogs from the shelter to their foster homes; to/from the vet; to/from the groomer and to/from adoption and special events.

Foster Homes

The number of dogs that VGSR can help is limited by the number of foster homes that we have. Open your heart and home to foster one of our great dogs. You will make a key difference in a dog's life - providing love and understanding, security, socialization and training, a nutritious and balanced diet, proper exercise, and medications as prescribed. In addition, our foster homes work within VGSR guidelines to ensure that our dogs receive necessary veterinary care, keep an updated file on their foster dog, attend adoption events, meet and greet the public, and interact with approved applicants to help our dogs find their perfect forever home. VGSR pays for all vetting of our fosters within guidelines.

Behavioral Evaluation

All of our foster dogs meet minimum behavioral standards. We evaluate a dog's temperament by interacting with the dog and taking note of the dog's behavior in response to ours. We also observe the dog's reactions to things such as noises, strange sights, and other animals. Volunteers are needed to evaluate dogs prior to their joining the VGSR family. Training is required, for this task!

Volunteers are also needed to help in other important areas including:

  • Photography
  • Home checks
  • Apply for grant funding
  • Fund-raising Assistance
  • Adoption counselors/Case workers
  • Publicity - Write and submit news articles
  • Development and maintance of our website
  • Administrative functions - telephone calls, written correspondence, data management
  • Layout, preparation, distribution of flyers, newsletters, brochures and/or business cards
