Oden 6763

Oden has just arrived at his Virginia foster after being dropped at a West Virginia shelter when his family moved and left him behind. Here's what we know so far!

Oden is a really striking dog who is going to be absolutely gorgeous once he's had a glow up. Unfortunately right now he is underweight, under-muscled, has poor skin and coat condition, and a number of wounds on his feet. Most likely self inflicted from kennel stress while at the shelter.

He is a bit unsure of himself and of being handled, but seems to have a nice temperament. He does not appear to have had much training - does not know Sit, etc. He is food motivated so training should be easy once he understands the concept. Speaking of food, he is VERY intense about it and caution is recommended for homes with young children because of this. Also feeding him separately with a slow feeder bowl. Hopefully he will develop some better food habits as he relaxes and gains weight.

Oden has done well meeting adults, as well as other friendly large and medium dogs. He is nervous at first but loosens up fairly quickly. He has not been around small dogs yet and is unsure about cats and horses (we understand, bud!). His previous owners said he was good with children, but did not say how young they were.

UPDATE:  Oden is one Very Good Boy! He has done great his first week in his foster home.

He has learned to Sit, Down, Stay, Leave It, and Come. He goes into his crate willingly and sleeps through the night. He is minimally vocal. He has not eaten any kitties or had any potty accidents. He's gotten along with his 3 foster siblings and several other dogs he's met. He's decided horses are OK and trail riding is super fun! And he's improved his manners about food and the door, although he still needs reminders. A dog can only manage so much in a week after all! Even one this devastatingly handsome

His maligator does sometimes come out when he plays - he's not been aggressive but can be a little much when excited. Fortunately he responds well to verbal corrections (from both humans and other dogs) so it's easy to hit the Off button. Otherwise he has shown nothing but positive breed traits since being here. Bright, eager to please, loyal, affectionate, and ready to join in on any adventure. Could it be with you??

Approved adopters are welcome to contact his foster at tgillisp1@gmail.com with questions or to schedule a meet-n-greet. Check back for more info as we get to know this lovely, long legged boy!
